Christopher Nolan has put his money where his mouth is and already heading back to enjoy films on the big screen. We know this thanks to a report from Deadline and a recent tweet from Regal Cinemas about the filmmaker’s latest visit. However, he’s not going back to show his support for “Tenet.” Instead, the director is enjoying some of the other features that are available in cinemas.

Then the pandemic hit and Searchlight had to quickly change plans for the release. Now, almost a full year after its world premiere, ‘David Copperfield’ is finally arriving in theaters.

The titular character opens the film on stage in a tiny theater, performing a live reading of his autobiography. His novel, told through voiceover, becomes the meta framing device in Copperfield’s retelling of his life—from childhood memories to his teenage years in a bid to make peace with his humble origins in a classist 1840’s London.

The fall film festival season is upon us and life is nuts. The Telluride Film Festival just ended on Monday. The Venice Film Festival is still going strong, though near the end. And now it’s time for the largest festival in North America, arguably the world: the Toronto International Film Festival. Now TIFF can be seen, in some ways, as pretty broad, McDonald’s-like, featuring many, many stars and red-carpet glamor, all the things that make film festivals feel superficial from the outside.
