With news that AMC, Regal, Landmark, Alamo Drafthouse, and the vast majority of other theaters in the US shutting down for potentially the next three months, it was only a matter of time before Disney announced that it would pull the release of “Black Widow.” And now, apparently, it’s official.

According to Variety, Disney has decided to delay the release of Marvel Studios’ “Black Widow” from its May 1 release date due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.

One of the greatest writers in history, Charles Dickens will now have another one of his books turned into a film in the form of “The Personal History of David Copperfield.” The director, Armando Iannucci, best known for his film “The Death Of Stalin” as well as directing the British TV series “I’m Alan Partridge,” is now bringing the vision of Dickens to life with what was probably one of his best books, “David Copperfield.”

Iannucci spoke to Deadline about why he wanted to do a film based on a Dickens novel, particularly David Copperfield.

Director Armando Iannucci—known for his biting political satires— approaches his newest film “The Personal History of David Copperfield” by employing colorblind casting in an earnest yet meandering reworking of Charles Dickens’ novel. The titular character opens the film on stage in a tiny theater, performing a live reading of his autobiography. His novel, told through voiceover, becomes the meta framing device in Copperfield’s retelling of his life—from childhood memories to his teenage years in a bid to make peace with his humble origins in a classist 1840’s London.

You’ve heard the refrain from us a lot lately. The fall film festival season is upon us and life is nuts. The Telluride Film Festival just ended on Monday. The Venice Film Festival is still going strong, though near the end. And now it’s time for the largest festival in North America, arguably the world: the Toronto International Film Festival. Now TIFF can be seen, in some ways, as pretty broad, McDonald’s-like, featuring many, many stars and red-carpet glamor, all the things that make film festivals feel superficial from the outside.

The first domino of the fall festival season has dropped with the announcement that Armando Iannucci’s “The Personal History of David Copperfield” is set to open the 63rd BFI London Film Festival on Oct. 2. What’s noteworthy about “David Copperfield’s” premiere is that it is strictly a “European” one meaning its world premiere should occur at either the Telluride or Toronto International Film Festivals in September. Considering Iannucci’s last film, “The Death of Stalin,” debuted at TIFF in 2017, we’re betting on the later.
