Action is an art, but it’s not always artfully crafted, sometimes placing a premium on noise, loudness, chaos, and all the things Michael Bay values. If you’re still paying attention (audiences certainly were this past weekend at the box office), and not too confused by yet another sequel in this unkillable franchise—this one has an admittedly clever take in which all previous sequels have been ignored for a direct continuation 40 years later from the original—then sit back and listen in as we discuss what’s missing and refreshing, if anything, about this new one.
