“The Marvels” may have been Marvel Studios biggest flop—grossing only $207 million worldwide, the lowest of any Marvel film ever— but now that it’s available on Disney+ and DVD, its co-star Teyonah Parris is urging fans who never saw it in theaters to give it a chance and make up their own minds.

Released during the actor’s strike on November 10, which only ended just as the film was opening up, Parris, who plays Captain Monica Rambeau and the rest of the cast— Brie Larson as Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel, and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan / Ms.

But CNN reports that Iger also had a multilayered explanation for why “The Marvels” did so poorly in theaters earlier this month, taking in just $47 million domestically its opening weekend. For the Disney head, Nia DaCosta‘s film didn’t fail due to only the increased output in the MCU’s recent Phases and the subsequent lapse in overall quality.

“Superhero fatigue” can be a loaded phrase that generally raises the hackles of fandom. For one, it’s been weaponized, used, seemingly for years, like a Cassandra in the streets foretelling doom, to no avail—superhero films have ruled the box office for nearly two decades now and have rarely shown signs of slowing down (the pandemic box-office hit, notwithstanding, but everyone took a beating there).
