The streaming service hasn’t even launched yet, but it’s already difficult to keep track of everything coming to HBO Max this year and in the years to come. During the platform’s debut presentation last year, dozens of original programs and films were announced coming to the service in 2020, and it appears that well before its spring debut, HBO Max is already looking at expanding its TV offerings even more with a new version of “The Last of the Mohicans.”

Last April, it was revealed that filmmaker Cary Fukunaga (currently finishing up his James Bond film, “No Time to Die”) was developing a series based on “The Last of the Mohicans.” However, at the time, there wasn’t a destination named.

Many film fans will immediately think of Daniel Day-Lewis when the story “The Last of the Mohicans” is mentioned. The Oscar-winning actor starred in the 1992 film, which is one of many adaptations of James Fenimore Cooper’s classic historical novel. Now, 27 years after Day-Lewis worked on the film, Cary Fukunaga is ready to create his own version of the story, this time as a limited series.

Daniel Day-Lewis is incomparable. A looming, legendary figure in cinema, whose stature has cemented after five decades of work as one of the greatest actors in the world, and one of all the all-time greats –  period – up there with the likes of Laurence Olivier and Marlon Brando. Known for his all-consuming method approach, which includes staying in character the entire time during the production of a film, like all mysterious figures who are semi-recluse —he doesn’t give a lot of interviews, he goes years in between films and once retired to become a cobbler—everyone seemingly wants a piece of Day-Lewis.
