In Theaters: ‘Clash of The Titans,’ ‘The Last Song’ & ‘Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Too’

It is temping to say that the summer blockbuster season starts now (a full week and a half into Spring) with the 3D action epic “Clash of the Titans.” But with last week’s big returns for “How to Train Your Dragon” and the gargantuan force of Tim Burton’s “Alice In Wonderland” that line is forever blurred. There are many wannabe blockbusters hitting screens even before Memorial Day, and it’s a wonder some enterprising studio doesn’t move a major tent-pole picture to the normally dead months of January or September.

No One Tells Carey Mulligan Anything; Not Sure About ‘My Fair Lady,’ ‘Effie,’ ‘Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’

Yesterday, we thought we’d finally settled the long-running issue of Carey Mulligan’s appearance in “My Fair Lady,” as the film’s screenwriter Emma Thompson said on the red carpet of “Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang” that “I think Carey is set to play the role,” the role being the film’s lead, Eliza Doolittle. Except, apparently, Ms. Mulligan isn’t aware of this.

Movieline/Collider spoke to the actress yesterday, at a press day for “The Greatest,” and asked about the project, and Mulligan responded with a non-committal “Well, that’s hugely flattering and that would be great.

So what happens when you become one of the hottest young actresses in Hollywood and an Oscar nominee? Those little indie films you that you’re probably not so proud of get picked up for distribution.

Back in December, indie distributors Paladin picked up Carey Mulligan’s other Sundance 2009 film, “The Greatest.” Starring Mulligan, Pierce Brosnan and Susan Sarandon the film concerns a pregnant young girl whose boyfriend dies in a car crash, and the uneasy relationship she forges with his parents.

The Weinsteins Pick Up John Lennon Biopic, ‘Nowhere Boy,’ Both McCartney And Lennon Roles Cast

The Weinstien Company picked up the rights to “Nowhere Boy,” the young John Lennon biopic directed by first-time feature filmmaker Sam Taylor-Wood, that already stars Kristen Scott Thomas as his Aunt Mimi, the woman who was strongly opposed to Lennon’s mother lifestyle and ended up raising the lad for the majority of his youth.

The film also stars Aaron Johnson,Thomas Sangster, David Morrissey and Anne-Marie Duff and starts out with Lennon at 15-years of age and ends around the time he meets the Beatles.

Sundance Watch: ‘Y Tu Mama Tambien’ Boys Are Back, John Cazale Appreciated; More…

Sundance 2009, which runs January 15 – 25, is just around the corner and things are starting to already heat up with lots of PR outlets trying to generate buzz by giving different publications exclusives.

– First off Sony Pictures Classics has already sealed-the-deal and acquired, the pre-Sundance screening of the reteaming of “Y Tu Mama Tambien” homeboys, Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal for the Spanish-language comedy “Rudo y Cursi,” directed by Carlos Cuaron (Alfonso Cuaron’s younger brother and the writer of ‘Tambien’ and Cuaron’s earlier screwball-ish comedy, “Sólo con tu pareja”; it’s great, btw).

Potential Sundance ’09 Film Line-Up?

At the tail end of this Michael Cera/Sundance article, THR notes some films that might appear at the Sundance Film Festival in 2009.

They include: a raunchy Ashton Kutcher’s comedy called, “Spread,” (Anne Heche appears to be the female love interest) a ’60s coming-of-age story titled “An Education” starring Emma Thompson, Rosamund Pike and Peter Sarsgaard, Shana Feste’s lost-child drama “The Greatest” (Pierce Brosnan with Susan Sarandon) and Antoine Fuqua’s cop drama “Brooklyn’s Finest” that stars Jesse Williams, Don Cheadle, Wesley Snipes, Ethan Hawke and Lili Taylor The documentary side will likely showcase Nicholas Kristof ‘s “Reporter,” R.J.
