Actress Charlyne Yi has spoken out about her experiences working on the 2017 film “The Disaster Artist,” which James Franco directed and Yi says she tried to quit because of the accusations of sexual misconduct against Franco.

In an Instagram post earlier this week, Yi, who played costume designer Safowa Bright-Asare in the film, called out not just Franco, but specifically producer Seth Rogen, accusing him of enabling Franco’s behavior.

For two relatively young guys, the Oscar nomination Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber earned for “The Disaster Artist” is a long time coming. From “500 Days of Summer” to “The Spectacular Now” to “Fault In Their Stars” the writing duo have shown a unique talent to bring a fresh perspective to familiar genres. At first glance “The Disaster Artist” seems like an odd fit for the writing partners, but as they note in our podcast interview at its core it’s more a movie about friendship than the making of the infamous cult movie “The Room.”

Another year, and another Golden Globes ceremony in the bag. The big winner tonight was “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” which took Best Picture — Drama, Best Actress,  Best Supporting Actor and Best Screenplay.

The quartet of wins for the Fox Searchlight was somewhat of a surprise, given that during much of the awards season run-up, the love for the film seemed to be somewhat cool for the guilds.

Maybe it’s because it’s a global trend, maybe because The Playlist is a hotbed of perverts, but it seems to us the movie and TV year in sex was more than usually characterized by interspecies, mystical, plant-based and/or supernatural sex, and quite a few of the more ostensibly “traditional” sex scenes that impressed us did so for very unsexy reasons (we’re not naming names, but Yorgos Lanthimos).

It remains the calm before the “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” storm at the box office, but no matter what, it’s Disney pulling in the big money before we return to a galaxy far, far away.

Pixar‘s “Coco” has stayed on top of the box office, pulling in $26.1 million, which along with another $69 million abroad, puts the film globally at $280 million to date.

Back in 2013, the actor/writer/director/producer penned a piece for Vice about Tommy Wiseau‘s cult favorite, and the book written by Greg Sestero that would eventually become the source material for “The Disaster Artist.” And the conclusion of the piece crystallizes everything Franco brings to his movie, which is loving towards Wiseau, even as it recognizes his flaws and absurdities:

So, A24 has dropped a new trailer that pivots in that direction… though, it’s really not representative of the film at all.

As you know James Franco directs and stars in the movie playing Tommy Wiseau, the man responsible for the cult classic disasterpiece, “The Room.” The film is certainly hilarious, but it’s also respectful of Wiseau, and is as much about the wild making of “The Room,” as it is about friendship, ambition, and against all odds, making something that has a lasting impression, good or bad.

AFI Fest is less than three weeks away and today the annual awards season event revealed its three centerpiece galas.  To say it’s looking like a stranger than usual AFI Fest is sort of an understatement.

As previously announced, Dee Rees’ “Mudbound” will open the festival on Thursday, Nov. 9.  It’s the first opening night film that’s not a world premiere in at least five years. The closing night film is Ridley Scott’s “All The Money In The World” which will have its world premiere on Nov.
