The company and the move towards streaming at home have made many critical about how streamers have killed or hurt the theatrical experience. While incontestably true, the phenomenon is not specific to Netflix, nor is it the company’s aim to destroy the theatrical experience (or any streamers). Netflix has bought key movie theaters in New York and L.A.— the Paris Theater in New York and Los Angeles’ Egyptian and Bay—and they used those both as repertory theaters and as a way to screen and highlight Netflix titles on the big screen.

One was the magnum opus “The Godfather Part II.” The second is another masterwork, “The Conversation” starring Gene Hackman, and while still highly regarded by cinephiles as a masterpiece of paranoia and the prescient notions of privacy, surveillance and the invasive nature of observation, the film, which also serves as a techno-thriller of its day, is still perhaps not as yet well known to mainstream audiences.

Thalberg Memorial Award in 2011; the three ‘Godfather’ films alone make up for nearly 30 nominations).

You’ll recall that earlier in the year we were psyched to hear the news of “I Knew It Was You,” a documentary on the late, great ’70s actor John Cazale who died of lung cancer just as his career was hitting its peak in 1979. Cazale, only appeared in five feature films, during his brief movie career, but what a resume it was, man. “The Godfather I & II,” “Dog Day Afternoon,” “The Conversation” and “The Deer Hunter” (the five unimpeachable classics garnered 40 Oscar nominations in total and the underappreciated Cazale never even received one nomination).

We’ve gone on a few times now about the documentary, “I Knew It Was You,” about cult ’70s actor John Cazale, whose abrupt career burned through five unforgettable roles in five unassailable classics (“The Conversation,” “Dog Day Afternoon,” “The Deer Hunter”) in an all too ephemeral seven years.

Best know for his role as the anxious and underappreciated, Fredo Corelone in ‘Godfather’ I and II,’ Cazale’s flame was snuffed out far too early in 1978 when he died of lung cancer before the release of “The Deerhunter.”

The documentary features affectionate testimonials, by his peers and friends, including former girlfriend Meryl Streep, fellow actors and filmmakers Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro, Gene Hackman, Richard Dreyfuss, Sidney Lumet, Francis Ford Coppola (who hired him for three of the five pictures) and modern admirers, Steve Buscemi, Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Sam Rockwell among many others.

Everyone’s inner-pre-pubescent film critic, Sexman has an announcement for all those haters out there, he’s finally got Braces, fuckers! Great, now all he has to do is dig through the yellow pages for a voice coach and tanning salon and he will be on his way to filing in the vacant slot on Ebert and Roeper.[Filmdrunk.com]

Surprise, goth-Queen Helena Bonham Carter discussed her role in next years “Terminator Salvation,” and guess what she isn’t playing someone good.
