And Studiocanal hopes they might replicate the sensation of the original series with a reboot. Deadline reports that the studio has a remake of the iconic ’60s spy series in the works, with two buzzy writers at the helm: “Industry” scribes Mickey Down and Konrad Kay.

Filmmakers of a certain age, such as Martin Scorsese, Ridley Scott, Denis Villeneuve, and most recently Jane Campion, are routinely asked about superhero films and their cultural dominance, which often leads to various criticisms of the genre itself and how it’s ruining the theatrical experience for anyone wanting to make non-blockbuster movies.

However, when the studio has recast actors, as in the cases of Terrence Howard and Edward Norton, the departures haven’t been the most amicable. That being said, in the latter case, Norton says that the decision over not continuing as Bruce Banner, aka the Hulk, was more creative than monetary.

Thrillist has a very comprehensive look at the making of the first “Avengers” film, which broke records when it was released in 2012. And even though, in hindsight, the film stands as one of the better Marvel Cinematic Universe films, it was far from smooth sailing during production.

Filmmaker Joss Whedon was signed on to co-write and direct the film, and by all accounts, he did a fine job.

But as David Fincher observed, this classic structure can keep storytellers tied down, instead of allowing them to explore new ways to create tension and conflict. How do we, objectively, define the acts of a film? What are their driving forces? And are they necessary? At a time when Netflix opens the doors for new ways of unfolding narratives, these queries are more vital than ever.

Sandwiched between the fall of Blockbuster (RIP) and the rise to digital streaming, everyone was going to their local grocery store or gas station to rent the latest and greatest movies. While they’re not as ubiquitous as they once were, Redbox is still alive and well renting movies to those that…don’t use computers? And now, they’ve released what is their Top 15 most-rented films of all time.

We decided to pit it against the 17 other summer seasons this century (yes, pedants, we count the year 2000) to see how it stacks up.

Of course, the several-billion dollar questions are: how do we define “Summer Season” and how to we define the kind of films we want to focus on?

No slight to Jeremy Renner, but it’s hard to make a glorified archer stand out alongside the likes of Iron Man, Ant-Man, Spider-Man, Black Panther, Hulk….you get the idea. Nevertheless, Clint Barton is a character with a backstory, and Renner was eager to explore these aspects in Joss Whedon‘s “The Avengers.” However, given that his character was pretty much a zombie for most of that movie, he didn’t really get the chance.

Sure, “Jurassic World” and “Furious 7” and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” might have outgrossed any superhero film last year, but if anyone thought that meant that the genre was on the way out, they’ve been proven wrong in 2016: ‘Apocalypse’ is the fourth superhero pic in as many months, and the three previous ones have taken over $2.5 billion between them.

Even though last we heard it was still at least a few years away, Disney is making sure their $4 billion buyout of Marvel starts paying back some of that investment sooner rather than later.

To that end, the studio has purchased the distribution rights for “The Avengers” and “Iron Man 3” from Paramount for a relatively bargain price of $115 million. The money will be owed on the release dates for the films, May 4, 2012 for the former and well, no release date yet for the latter.

Mark Ruffalo confirmed with NY Mag that, “They’re going to do the Avatar stop-action, stop-motion capture. So I’ll actually play the Hulk. That’ll be fun.” Of course, it’s one thing to motion capture a character and another to believably direct it; it remains to be seen if Joss Whedon will be able to smoothly handle what will easily be the most effects-heavy project of his entire career.

With the DVD and BluRay set to hit next week, details on some of the features have apparently been leaking. The Daily Blam! reports that the latest news involves director Jon Favreau discussing some of the Easter Eggs hidden in the film’s scene with Nick Fury (Samuel L.

After his Nazi zombie horror comedy “Dead Snow” made a bit of a splash at Sundance in 2009, Norwegian director Tommy Wirkola became something of a hot property.

Interesting. In an Australian interview, filmmaker Joss Whedon admits that he is working with a heavy dose of restrictions and compromises for “The Avengers” film.

“Right now, I’m working on a movie that’s got enormous stipulations and is going to be changing and fluid every second. I’ve come up with dozens of scenes and lines and exchanges and monologues that I adore that are not going to be in it. But while I’m writing them they feed me, excite me and they ultimately inform the character.

Nerd alert! OK, this is sort of dorky news (even for us), but director/writer Joss Whedon has essentially said that “The Avengers” won’t just be a sausage party and will have…(wait for it), gasp!… another girl in the movie.

Ew! Cooties! Don’t get too excited. This isn’t likely the Scarlett Witch, Ms. Marvel or Wasp. Whedon tells the Australian press (via Moviehole) that “It is true that the movie is only going to have one female Avenger,” Whedon said of Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow role.

With Joss Whedon now officially in the director’s chair, and the principle cast locked in, “The Avengers” is now firmly on its way to its May 4, 2012 release. Now, some more concrete news on when it’s likely to be heading in front of cameras has turned up.

Superhero Hype are reporting that the film will be shooting in LA from February, presumably geared around Robert Downey Jr.’s schedule on “Sherlock Holmes 2.” Not only that, but the often reliable Showbiz 411 are reporting that the film will be shot in 3D; not a huge surprise, but considering that both “Thor” and “Captain America” are being converted in post-production, it’s at least comforting to know that Whedon’s going the more advanced route.

And there came a day… a day just like any other… a day when Earth’s movie fans were presented with a mind-numbingly dull teaser trailer for a film property that hasn’t even made it in front of cameras yet…

Yes, it’s our first look (well, listen) at “The Avengers.” Sure, there’s no actual footage, but that’s not to deter Marvel from delivering us with the non-event of a trailer for their future team-up.

Probably as tired as we are of reading rumors about “Ant-Man” and “The Avengers,” Edgar Wright finally addressed the issue at Comic-Con. Speaking to Cinema Blend, the director confirmed that his take on “Ant-Man” will be an origin based story and that it won’t fit in the world that Joss Whedon is conjuring for this upcoming film.

“I talked to Kevin Feige about that a while back where we just discussed about whether he would be in The Avengers.

So Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury character is the connective tissue that tethers all Marvel Studios’ characters together that culminate in Joss Whedon’s “The Avengers,” yes?

Well, yes, but he won’t be appearing in Kenneth Branagh’s “Thor,” actor Clark Gregg — who plays S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Coulson — confirmed in a “Thor” roundtable at ComicCon this weekend.

Speaking to a crowd of adoring fans, Joss Whedon and J.J. Abrams spilled a few beans on a couple of projects. Sure, we already knew Whedon was directing “The Avengers,” – duh – but he discussed it a little more, mentioning that his portrayal of the team will be like a big, dysfunctional family. In describing the ragtag superhero crew, Whedon said “these people should not be in the same room together.” So, expect a lot of sass from Robert Downey Jr.

Update: Deadline reports that the deal is done and Mark Ruffalo has signed on to play the Hulk in “The Avengers”

So will Mark Ruffalo make a red-eye flight tonight out to San Diego?

The Wrap is reporting that a deal is close to being finalized for Ruffalo to play The Hulk for Marvel, not only in “The Avengers,” but in some unspecified future films as well. And that appears to be the sticking point preventing the deal from being inked.
