Well, here’s an interesting “what-if” scenario: apparently “Twilight” star Robert Pattinson was given the chance to audition for both “There Will Be Blood” and “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.”

Pattinson cites turning down Paul Thomas Anderson’s ‘Blood’ as one of the “biggest regrets” in his career. It is unknown what roles he was offered, but we surmise that he probably would have auditioned for the role of hackneyed priest Eli and his twin brother Paul, roles which obviously ended up going to the similarly young Paul Dano.

2007 was another near spectacular year and basically everything from 2005 on is some damn fine cinema.

At Cannes in ’07, Cristian Mungiu ‘s Romanian abortion drama “4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days,” won the Palme d’Or, Gus Van Sant’s “Paranoid Park” won the special 60th anniversary prize and Julian Schnabel would take Best Director for “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly.”

The Oscars were finally getting their heads out of their ass in 2007.

First Listen: Nick Cave & Warren Ellis’ Score To ‘The Road’

While no soundtrack for John Hillcoat’s “The Road” starring Viggo Mortensen and Kodi Smit-McPhee has been released yet, White Lunar, the new, two-disc compilation album of Nick Cave and Warren Ellis’ soundtrack work did come out this week (September 22) on import.

And yes, there is incredibly haunting and funereal music from “The Proposition” (which Cave also wrote the screenplay for) and the phenomenal “The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward John Ford,” but there is also new music to “The Road,” that doesn’t hit theaters now until November 25 (we saw it during TIFF and thought it was bleak, but beautiful and heartwrenching at times).

‘The Road’ Still Undergoing Tweaks, Nick Cave And Warren Ellis Still Scoring New Music

As we reported months ago, Nick Cave and Warren Ellis are scoring the music to the adaptation of novelist Cormac McCarthy’s “The Road,” starring Viggo Mortensen and newcomer Kodi Smit-McPhee (with appearances by Charlize Theron and Guy Pearce).

Well, Anne Thompson wasn’t kidding when she said the film wouldn’t be ready for the fall film festival season cause it was still undergoing tweaks. Due November 14. Well, the filmmakers are apparently still working on the film (which granted isn’t out of the ordinary).Speaking to the L.A.

Every one’s doing the For Your Consideration pieces, trying to get the Academy to take one last glance at a certain performance or job on set that has been overlooked or undervalued. So, why we don’t we join the herd, shall we? The main difference is we’re not delusional enough to a) believe this will change anything* and b) that these people have much of a prayer. Here’s to hoping that some of them get some appreciation somewhere down the line and our little attempt on shining some love on strong and overlooked work this year.

What’s that? 2007 ended three weeks ago? Yeah, go fuck yourself, we work on our own timetable. So anyhooo, there were like, a bunch of movies released this year and a few of them even had music in them. You may have noticed it’s our raison d’être (other than calling BS on things). We spent a lot of time this year discussing, debating and obsessing over certain soundtracks this year. It would be pretty easy to say we picked a good year to start a blog about music in movies.

Soundtrack Wrap: The Honeydrippers, The Great Debaters, Black Lips, RZA; More

– Indie workhorse John Sayles‘ upcoming and 16th film “Honeydripper” will focus on ’50s rural blues music from the deep south. Due in theaters December 28 the film stars Danny Glover, Charles S. Dutton, Mary Steenburgen and Sean Patrick Thomas. Featured musicians include Keb’ Mo’, Dr. Mable John, Eddie Shaw and Jerry Portnoy among others. A soundtrack disc is coming, but no details have been finalized as of yet.

– The soundtrack to Denzel Washington’s sophomore directorial effort, “The Great Debaters” is due from Atlantic records on December 11.

Here’s a little trick. What can we say about these films that we haven’t already? Honestly, we sort of hate writing reviews, so here’s some capsule reviews for some recent films we’ve seen. [ed. we haven’t written about all of them].

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
(dir. Andrew Dominik. Brad Pitt, Casey Affleck)
A moody, thoughtful anti-western, the lost in limbo (it was shot two years ago and has been tinkered with ever since) ‘Assassination’ illustrates the best and worst of wandering, Terrence Malick-like pictures – it’s meditative and is angelically shot, but it also lasts almost three hours and could stand some serious editing.
