Netflix was promoting their upcoming major blockbuster film “Bright.” At the time, people viewed Netflix films as either big-budget disasters, small (but quality) indie films, or Adam Sandler “comedies.” Needless to say, the stigma around Netflix Original Films was pretty horrible. His previous films include “The Iceman” with Michael Shannon, Chris Evans, and Winona Ryder and also “Criminal” which featured Kevin Costner, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot.

But that shouldn’t take away from the fact diverse voices took much of the spotlight this year. The festival had more Asian films in competition than in many years, Spike Lee’s “BlacKkKlansman” was a rare African-American centered tale up for the Palme d’Or and, oh yeah, it was probably the gayest Cannes ever.
