The cast of Francis Ford Coppola’s long-gestating dramatic epic, “Megalopolis”—a film he’s been trying to make for nearly 20 years— has added a bevy of new actors, including Shia LaBeouf, Jason Schwartzman (Coppola’s nephew), Talia Shire (his sister), Grace Vanderwaal, Kathryn Hunter and James Remar.

The controversial eye-opener in this list is, of course, LaBeouf, who is attempting something of a comeback after his ex-girlfriend FKA Twigs accused him in a February 2021 lawsuit of abuse, mental, physical, and sexual.

Everyone used to rag on George Lucas for the special edition version of the original “Star Wars” trilogy with new VFX, new footage, etc. But let’s face it, no living legendary filmmaker is worse for toying with his classic films that Francis Ford Coppola, who has basically made an entire side career by re-releasing his films in new versions. There have been at least two major reworked versions of “Apocalypse Now,” new cuts of “One From The Heart,” “The Cotton Club,” and there’s been talk of a new cut of “Tucker: The Man and His Dream” coming too.

The Tribeca Film Festival is coming to a close, and today is the last day to catch up with the festival winners. But last night, Tribeca capped off a successful 2017 run with an epic and historic evening to celebrate the 45th anniversary of “The Godfather.” A marathon eight-hour event, Tribeca screened “The Godfather” and “The Godfather: Part II” back to back, followed by a fascinating one-and-a-half-hour talk with director Francis Ford Coppola and a few members of the principal cast: Al Pacino, Diane Keaton, James Caan, Robert Duvall, Talia Shire, and, from ‘Part II,’ Robert De Niro.
