Few films of the early 00’s have aged as poorly as “Garden State,” Zach Braff’s hyper-precocious Gen-Y Me drama. At the time, most of us regarded the film as it deserved to be considered — tripe — but even the picture’s ardent defenders feel the bloom was off the rose long ago. Fortunately, television has kept Braff from daring to get back behind the camera, but the death of “Scrubs” has suddenly given him more than a little free time.

Zach Braff To Lead Deborah Chow’s Dark Indie Drama ‘The High Cost Of Living’

Despite the acclaimed “Garden State” which saw the multi-hyphenate write, direct and star, Zach Braff’s ventures into feature filmmaking have thus far been few and far between. The actor, however, will now star in Deborah Chow’s upcoming dark indie drama “The High Cost Of Living.”

The film’s story is put into motion when a hit and run incident sees an eight-month pregnant woman, Nathalie, lose her baby while the intoxicated young male responsible, Henry, flees the scene of the crime in order to save himself from police prosecution.

All Hail The 2009 Hollywood ‘Black List’

The latest edition of The Black List surfaced on Friday, thanks to the intrepid reporting of Nikkie Finke. Yes, we’re a little behind, but we wanted to take a deeper look.

She’s revealed all of the 97 screenplays on the list, compiled by studio executives sharing the details of the finest scripts on their desks yet to be produced. In addition to the unreliability of their tastes (studio executives aren’t necessarily a bunch of Pauline Kaels), the script is also influenced by agencies lobbying for a mention on the prestigious compilation, with Finke rightly mentioning that some execs will lobby to get scripts on the list so certain stars might have their interests peaked.

Here’s your first look at Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Natalie Portman in their upcoming indie-comedy “Hesher.” The film, which also co-stars Rainn Wilson, follows the story of a loser 20-something who invades the life of an awkward 13-year-old who is living with a pill-popping father and grandmother. We’d pay too see these three in just about anything. [Just Jared]

Stephen Fry is to lead the film adaptation of his novel “The Liar,” with Tony Hagger to produce and direct.
