Alex Garland’s political war thriller, “Civil War” opens in theaters this Friday, April 12, and now that all the reviews have arrived (read ours here), A24 is giving the film one last push, using some of the breathless raves as quotes to stir up excitement. We’re even quoted at the beginning of the trailer calling it “the movie event of the year.”

That’s fairly accurate because “Civil War” feels like it could be this year’s “Joker” in terms of a movie potentially so polarizing it may have everyone from every aisle of the political divide watching it to see what they make of the film.

As “Dune: Part Two” looks to potentially double the global box office grosses of the original installment in the coming weeks (it currently sits at $628.8 million), fans of the franchise were a little surprised a few characters were missing in the sequel. One of those characters was Stephen McKinley Henderson‘s Thufir Hawat, a loyal member of House Atreides, prominently featured in the first film. However, while speaking to Entertainment Weekly while promoting “Civil War” this week, the actor said that he has “no regrets” that his character’s scenes were cut from the film.

When adapting a rich sci-fi fantasy literary franchise as dense and epic as the scale of Frank Herbert’s “Dune,” some things just won’t be able to make the feature film adaptation. As you may have noticed if you saw this film this weekend, there are a few elements seen in the David Lynch incarnation that didn’t make it into director Denis Villeneuve’s two-part incarnation, such as the Spicing Guild and Navigator (A mutated clairvoyant that warns The Emperor of House Atreides and Paul Atreides becoming a threat to them).

So far in his short career, filmmaker Ari Aster has become an indie auteur in the vein of Jordan Peele in just two short films. His films may not be of the same scale—yet—but they are just as ambitious. So far, Aster is known for freaky, distressing horrors like “Hereditary” (about dysfunctional, toxic families)  and “Midsommar” (about poisonous relationships). Still, his latest, “Beau Is Afraid,” is more of a twisted dark comedy, an existential comedy about a life spanning several lifetimes and decades.
