Things seem to be looking up a bit for Julie Taymor. Her highly anticipated big-screen take on “The Tempest” starring Helen Mirren, Chris Cooper, Felicity Jones, David Strathairn, Djimon Hounsou, Reeve Carney, Alan Cumming, Alfred Molina, Ben Whishaw and Russell Brand, has found its way out of post-Miramax hell and will finally be released by Touchstone Pictures in December. And her oft-delayed and troubled stage production of “Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark,” — even though it’s now minus two leads in Evan Rachel Wood and Alan Cumming — does seem to be on its way to hit Broadway this fall.

Every morning Julie Taymor must wake up and wonder what she got herself into.

Just when her already-troubled stage production of “Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark” finally looked like it was on track to make it to Broadway, lead actress Evan Rachel Wood has dropped out of the project citing a scheduling conflict.

The production was originally slated to premiere in February before encountering delay after delay. An eye on a late summer preview season and Halloween premiere is now being rumored, though a new Mary-Jane now needs to be cast alongside Reeve Carney and Alan Cumming, who are presumably still on board as Peter Parker and the Green Goblin respectively.

So, as reported earlier, Sam Raimi has bailed on the “Spider-Man” franchise, after the troubled fourth installment failed to come together, and he’ll be taking with him Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, and, most tragically, JK Simmons. Having flirted with the idea immediately after the critically derided “Spider-Man 3,” Sony have now committed to the idea of a complete reboot, returning the character to his high-school days, from an already-completed script from James Vanderbilt, the writer of “Zodiac,” and one of the early drafts of the script for the fourth movie.

U2’s Bono and The Edge recently took to discussing Julie Taymor’s upcoming “Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark” musical — which looks like it’s going forward gung-ho despite rumors of financial problems — which the two have written music for.

“It touches on opera, it touches on rock ‘n’ roll. There are some real character driven songs as well, very unusual song types for us,” The Edge explained to the BBC. “It is a new challenge.

We missed this the first time. Evan Rachel Wood trying to mollify Bono’s humorlessness when writing music for Julie Taymor’s “Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark,” Broadway musical. Funny…

“Bono and the Edge are doing the music. It was hysterical, I got to do the workshop, sit down with them playing guitars going over the music, and I was making jokes going, watch by the end of this, I’ll be telling them what to do.

“Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark,” the highly anticipated Spider-Man musical, has an opening day- February 10th, 2010. Many thought this momentous day would never come- budget overruns and postponements made it sound as if the project, directed by Julie Taymor with music from U2’s Bono and The Edge, was doomed from the start. A plot synopsis was revealed…

“The musical follows the story of teenager Peter Parker, whose unremarkable life is turned upside-down—literally—when he’s bitten by a genetically altered spider and wakes up the next morning clinging to his bedroom ceiling.
