Lizzo led all nominees with eight, but both she Billie Eilish landed nods in the top four categories: Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year and Best New Artist. They become the first two artists to ever pull that unique feat off.

When filmmakers create live-action projects, it’s very easy to do alternate takes, extra scenes, and whole new set-ups. The fact that it just means re-positioning actors, filming longer takes, and such makes it so that the average film could be 3+ hours before being cut down to normal size. However, with animation, that’s not really the case. Everything is so thoroughly planned, once a film is fully animated, so much thought has been put into it, that there’s hardly any deleted scenes.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts revealed the winners of the 2019 BAFTA Awards on Sunday and it crowned a frontrunner for the Best Picture Oscar, “Roma.”  Alfonso Cuaron’s autobiographical drama took Best Film over “The Favourite” which dominated the rest of the proceedings.

“Roma” also won Best Director (Cuaron) as well as Film Not in the English Language (Foreign Language Film) and Best Cinematography.  Along with the DGA honor for Cuaron, it nudges the Netflix release into pole position for Oscar’s top prize.

We’re not sure how many film fans out there actually care, but this weekend marks the annual Super Bowl weekend, where moviegoers skip the multiplex on Sunday and stay inside to watch the two best NFL teams duke it out for world supremacy. And due to this massive television event, the weekend box office during this time is usually much weaker. However, 2019’s Super Bowl weekend is the weakest in almost 20 years.

Last week, we knew that this weekend was going to be small, in relation to the massive weekend’s we’ve had so far this year.

ASIFA-HOLLYWOOD honored the best in their craft Saturday night at the 46th Annie Awards.  Surprisingly, it was a year where Pixar and Disney Animated films didn’t dominate the top film awards.  Instead, the acclaimed “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” took home six Annies including Best Animated Feature, Character Animation, Directing and Writing in an Animated Feature Production.
