Universal Hires Allen Hughes To Direct A Snoop Dogg Biopic

It worked for “Straight Outta Compton,” which charted the rise and fall of the rap group, N.W.A. So, apparently, Universal thinks the rap biopic genre is something worth exploring with an upcoming film based on the life and career of Snoop Dogg.

According to THR, a film about the life of Snoop Dogg is being developed with writer Joe Robert Cole and director Allen Hughes attached.

Johnny Marr Talks Score For Antonio Banderas Thriller ‘The Big Bang’; NSFW Sizzle Reel Temp Scored To Radiohead

Back in December, we reported that Johnny Marr was scoring the forthcoming mystery pic, “The Big Bang.” The film, which stars Antonio Banderas, Delroy Lindo, William Fichtner, Sam Elliot and Snoop Dogg is about a detective’s investigation into the death of a stripper who no one has ever seen, which is compounded by the fact that everyone he talks to ends up dead.

When we first heard about the film, directed by long time TV producer and unproven film director Tony Krantz, it sounded like a straight-to-video movie to us, and judging by the NSFW sizzle reel/trailer below, the movie looks absolutely dreadful.

Death Row Records To Launch Film Arm, Cannibalize Back Catalogue

Death Row Records, more or less the most influential record company in the history of hip-hop (second only to Def Jam), filed for bankruptcy on January 25th 2009. Seven months down the line, and the company, now acquired by WIDEawake Entertainment Group Ltd, has announced its intentions to set up a film arm.

New CEO Lara Lavi has announced, via The Hollywood Reporter, that the first Death Row Films production, “Sons 2 The Grave,” (surprisingly, not a sequel to the Jet Li and DMX vehicle “Cradle 2 The Grave”, for better or for worse…) will go before the camera in October, telling the story of a basketball star (K.C.

Harmony Korine & New Snoop Dogg Film Added To TIFF ’09 Line-Up

OK, let’s get real, it’s not a new Snoop Dogg film per se, but one Cordazar Calvin Broadus (Snoop’s birth name) is co–starring in a new film titled, “Down for Life,” with Danny Glover that will make its world premiere at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival.

The film is a Latino gang drama by director Alan Jacobs (no discernible offhand credits) and is based off a New York Times article.

Eleven new films have been added.

The song features on the soundtrack to the documentary “In Prison My Whole Life,” which played at this year’s Sundance Festival.
