“Welcome to this week’s blog live from The Rocket Club. Hit it,” proclaims Sloan’s Chris Murphy. And so begins the next installment of the “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World” vlog.

This week’s focus is the ‘battle of the bands’ contest involving Pilgrim’s Sex Bob-Omb and rivals Crash And The Boys as the blog finds itself on location for our first look at the band in action. The band line up is, of course, Michael Cera’s Scott Pilgrim, Marc Webber’s Stephen Still and Alison Pill’s Kim Pine.

New ‘Scott Pilgrim’ Poster Reveals 3 Clues

At a recent Vegas Licensing trade show snaps of a new “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World” poster were taken (there were also posters for “Iron Man 2” and Johnny Depp’s “Rango,” but this one was the only one with credits so it interested us), but we like to dig a little deeper than just, “hey, look! Cooooool.” 😉 Or at least, generally we do.

It’s hard to tell in this smaller version we have here, but if you blow up the large version you can strain your eyes enough to find three interesting details (and give yourself a painful headache).

Sloan Helping Michael Cera’s Sex Bob-Omb Band In ‘Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World’?

Music is an integral part of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World,” graphic novel. Here’s a quick sample:

– The Scott Pilgrim name is taken from a song by the now-defunct East Coast Canadian all-girl band Plumtree
– There’s a least two bands in the books, Sex Bob-Omb and The Clash at Demonhead (both are video game references)
– Book #3 “Scott Pilgrim and the Infinite Sadness,” is an knowing nod to the Smashing Pumpkins.

Soundtrack Of The Day: The Virgin Suicides

No, we’re not talking the excellent atmospheric and gauzy Air score (that’s another post onto itself).

We’re talking the dreamy ’70s flavored songs that director Sofia Coppola sprinkled among the atmospheric swoon by the aforementioned Gallic duo; namely, Todd Rundgren. Yes, the soundtrack is mostly remembered (at least pop-song-wise) for its rebellious and riotous Heart songs and the inclusion of five Sloan songs (that you’d only hear in the film if you were paying the nerdiest of attention), but it’s the gauzy Rundgren songs, plus songs by 10cc and the Hollies that really seem to capture the vibe and aura of the era and setting of that film.
