Fans of “Sin City” and its long-awaited sequel should tentatively rejoice. In a Facebook livechat that took place this afternoon (October 10 from 1pm-2pm EST), director Robert Rodriguez said that “Sin City 2” would be the follow-up film after “Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World.”

“Frank Miller and I are working on it,” Rodriguez said, with one caveat.”It’s slated to be the next one, but if the script is not ready, then we’ll have to move to the next one,” he said, not elaborating on what that the other “next one “would be.

Controversial Japanese filmmaker Takashi Miike of late seems to have slowed down his ridiculously prolific pace. Just check his IMDB profile and you’ll see. The man must love to make movies, but it’s welcome to see him take a more contemplative approach to his filmmaking. Ok, contemplative may be the wrong word to describe the gonzo genre Japanese filmmaker, as he’s now down to a more manageable (for him, we guess) two, three films in a year, but “13 Assassins” must have benefited from time.

When it comes to Comic Con, no one wants a bummer. So when someone asks Robert Rodriguez whether there’s going to be a sequel to “Predators” his reaction is along the lines of “of course!” and “the next one will have a bigger budget!” And when they ask if he’ll direct it, he says, “Possibly, after ‘Sin City 2.'” So yeah, Rodriguez knows how to politick this shit – someone ask him if another “From Dusk Till Dawn” is happening so you can get a “maybe.”

Rodriguez had been offered the director’s chair for a “Deadpool” movie back in June, though his silence on the matter speaks for itself.

We’re fans of Robert Rodriguez, so we’re bummed he had to cancel out on interviews with The Playlist for “Predators” (hey, we got Nimrod Antal at least).

We dig prolific and busy filmmakers, and the man has so many irons in the fire — “Predators” comes out July 9, “Machete” hits September 3, “Spy Kids 4: Armageddon” shoots this summer and a complete “Grindhouse” DVD is on the way — he’s a constantly fascinating figure.

SXSW: Robert Rodriguez Confirms He Won’t Do ‘Jetsons,’ ‘Spy Kids’ Reboot Is Next

Early this morning during a press conference for the Robert Rodriguez produced “Predators” picture directed by Nimrod Antal — the footage of which incidentally looks nice and raw with primal fear being the big take away, read our report here — the Austin-based filmmaker was asked the inevitable, “what’s next” question from prying journos.

He echoed what his Troublemaker producer Elizabeth Avellan told Empire magazine a few months ago regarding a certain space-age family cartoon adaptation, though while Avellan suggested “The Jetsons” might be over, Rodriguez responded with an unequivocal, “I’m not doing ‘The Jetsons’.”

What is happening next is his reboot of his own “Spy Kids” franchise for The Weinstein Company with an all new, younger cast as the original kids have essentially all grown up now (Daryl Sabara has stayed in the Troublemaker family, he has a role in forthcoming “Machete”).

Robert Rodriguez Still Wants To Do Mexico-Set ‘Nervewrackers’ Sci-Fi Film; Talks ‘Sin City 2’ & ‘Jetsons’

The new issue of Empire is the gift that keeps on giving. None of the interviews appear to be online yet, but we snagged an early copy.

An interview with Robert Rodriguez that sounds like it was conducted in January reveals a lot about the Austin-based filmmaker and his myriad projects. The one that piques our interest is that his sci-fi film, “Nervewrackers” appears to be something he still wants to do. In fact, as you’ll remember it was set to shoot last year, but that plan was changed last minute when Rodriguez decided to co-direct “Machete” with his longtime editor, Ethan Maniquis (which was once set to be a small-scale project, but took on a life of its own when bigger cast members, like Robert DeNiro, seemed able and willing).

Robert Rodriguez always seems to be working on something. When he’s not directing, he’s producing and when he’s not doing either of those, he’s talking to someone about the stuff he’s going to do (and unlike his buddy Quentin Tarantino, his talk-to-action ratio is much higher). IESB sat down with the director and managed to get a fair bit of information from the Troblemaker Studios honcho about what’s on his plate for 2010.

“Untitled Spy Kids Reboot” – To be honest, this writer, who is at least a good two decades older than the intended audience, hasn’t seen a single one of the “Spy Kids” films to date.

Reports Claim ‘Sin City 2’ Shooting Next Year

So “Sin City 2.” Every time this project comes up anyone in the know generally rolls their eyes and with good reason.

Robert Rodriguez has been busy with several projects, is in the middle of editing “Machete,” while producing “Predators” and writing the script for “Spy Kids 4.”

This latest report by Mania (via MTV) says production will begin in the second half of 2010. That seems doubtful, but it’s not impossible.

Jessica Alba & Robert Rodriguez Acquire Rights To French Graphic Novel, ‘The Insiders’?

Jessica Alba has evidently acquired the rights to “The Insiders,” a series of graphic novels created in 2002 by Jean-Claude Bartoll and Renaud Garreta according to ICV2, that claim many French-language sites are reporting this news.

Alba’s partner in crime is none other than her “Sin City” director Robert Rodriguez who has evidently co-acquired the rights with her in aim to make a movie and video game (whether he’s directing himself remains to be seen).

‘Youth In Revolt’ Has No Release Date – Has The Weinstein Company Run Out Of Money?

Sharon Waxman over at The Wrap has written another doomsday piece about the Weinstein Company, the type that were pretty prevalent last year when “The Reader” was threatening to be a nonstarter. Essentially, there are whispers that the Weinsteins have run through their entire $1.2 billion loan given to them at the start of their company, without a single real hit movie to show for it. Rumors suggest it’s gotten so bad that the company, currently debuting their pricey co-production at Cannes “Inglorious Basterds,” might not have enough capital to promote and release the shelved Michael Cera comedy “Youth In Revolt.”

Robert Rodriquez Changing His Mind About ‘Sin City 2’?

Since Robert Rodriquez released “Sin City” four years ago, fans have been laying awake at night wondering when the Texican director will finally get around to making a sequel. Well, it seemed for a while that it wasn’t going to happen anytime soon, or at all since the director kept quipping comments like “I always say ‘Sin City 2 right’ around the corner, because that’s what everybody wants to hear and I like pleasing the audience…but it might be a long corner.”

However, when recently discussing the project with IGN, the director hinted that he might be caving under fan pressure and changing his mind about the possibility of a sequel, “Next week we’re going to talk about it some more and get a timing on when we’d be doing it.
