Adam McKay’s most recent films, “The Big Short,” “Vice,” and “Don’t Look Up” (based on the premise) all deal with political themes in a pretty explicit way. Sure, there’s the humor and heart that McKay has instilled in almost all of his features, dating back to his raunchy, R-rated Will Ferrell comedy days, but his later films don’t shy away from having a clear political viewpoint.

Last night was a first for the president of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige – he actually was invited to the Golden Globes. Thanks to the massive success of “Black Panther,” Feige, along with many of the cast and crew, were invited to the awards ceremony thanks to the film earning two nominations, including Best Drama. And while on the red carpet, the ever-evasive Feige opened up to MTV about “Avengers: Endgame,” “Guardians of the Galaxy 3,” Adam McKay, and of course, “Black Panther.”

First, it was clear that the Marvel Studios exec was ecstatic about “Black Panther” being up for awards, and obviously becoming the cultural phenomenon that it became.

Who needs to talk about Christian Bale and his performance as former Vice President Dick Cheney when you can talk about live-action films about superpowered people dressing in elaborate costumes?

As we found out late last week, the last major hurdle in the merger between Disney and 20th Century Fox has been cleared. With shareholders for both companies agreeing to the sale, it looks like Disney will finally gain control of Fox’s assets sometime in the first half of 2019 when the deal officially closes. And those assets include some of the biggest franchises in the world.

Many fans — in particular the ones who have yearned to see the previously owned Fox/Marvel characters all under one roof and the control of Marvel Studio‘s Kevin Feige — are ecstatic, but the already-immense Disney owning and absorbing yet another huge movie studios is definitely cause for pause and even alarm.

What looked so certain in December, is still under review, as lawyerly types sift through mountains of paperwork, and executives wait to see if the deal will get government approval. So, until more is known, Fox is pressing ahead with their mutant movie plans, Marvel be damned, and they’ve got a lot in the works.

We already know that Kitty Pryde and Doctor Doom movies are brewing, but there’s more cooking up.
