Marvel Studios still stands as the most organized of the cinematic universe studios, but Sony (who they’re teaming up with on this summer’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming“) is coming in hot on their heels. They’ve already landed Tom Hardy for next year’s “Venom,” and now their Silver Sable and the Black Cat movie is heating up.

Gina Prince-Bythewood has been tapped to helm the female-driven superhero flick, which will be titled simply, “Silver And Black.” While perhaps best known as the filmmaker behind “The Secret Life Of Bees” and “Beyond The Lights,” Prince-Bythewood has recently completed the pilot for Marvel’s Freeform series “Cloak & Dagger,” and I would presume her work impressed the right people.

Get ready, there’s another comic book movie universe Hollywood is hoping to make you care you about. With Marvel‘s operation running like a well-oiled, money making machine, and DC Films stumbling along, now Sony is getting into the mix. The studio reboots Peter Parker this summer with “Spider-Man: Homecoming” (with a little help from Marvel) and you better believe they are not wasting a moment in creating an expanded universe.
