Hulu’s acclaimed crime-comedy “Only Murders In The Building” is returning for a fourth season, and the group of actors they assemble is becoming quite the collection of comedians. A new casting report from Variety has revealed that actor Kumail Nanjiani (“The Big Sick”) has nabbed a supporting role in the latest season of the series, which stars Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, and Martin Short.

For a comedy as funny as “Silicon Valley,” the HBO series has had its fair share of drama behind the scenes. Despite the series’ acclaim and Emmy wins, it hasn’t been completely smooth sailing over the last five years for “Silicon Valley,” with issues with one of the leads, TJ Miller causing an uncertain future a couple of seasons ago. But the comedy has recovered and now enters its sixth and final season later this month.

It’s TV renewal time. And man, that was fast. HBO‘s “Barry,” starring Bill Hader as a melancholy hitman turned actor, has been renewed for a second season after only two episodes have aired. The cable channel must love what they see. Created by Alec Berg and Hader, “Barry” launched its eight-episode first season March 25. Hader stars in the title role as a depressed, low-rent hitman from the Midwest who finds himself drawn into a community of acting students while on a hit job in L.A.

The final, yes, the final guild honor to be handed out before the Academy Awards this year were the CAS Awards on Saturday night, and there were few surprises from the Cinema Audio Society.  The guild awarded honors to the presumptive winner of the Sound Mixing Oscar, “Dunkirk,” as well as the massively popular “Game of Thrones.”

The Directors Guild of America won’t be announcing the film nominations for the DGA Awards until tomorrow, but this morning they revealed the TV honorees and it goes without saying “Game of Thrones” ruled.

It’s funny how things work out sometimes. Last spring, T.J. Miller announced that he was leaving HBO‘s “Silicon Valley,” spreading his wings to pursue movie projects and other creative endeavors, and also do things like parasail into the Cannes Film Festival to promote “The Emoji Movie.” By the end of the year, Miller would be facing allegations of sexual assault.

“Transparent’s” Jill Soloway, the winner in this category the past two years, was shockingly snubbed this time around, but this has always been Donald Glover‘s to lose anyway. The “Atlanta” star, director and writer earned a DGA Award nod for the same episode losing to an episode from the previous “Veep” season, and the series could take Writing and overall Series Emmys as well. Glover is also assisted by the fact that “Veep” and “Silicon Valley” embarrassingly split up the other five slots in this category.

The network has revealed that T.J. Miller, who plays the scruffy entrepreneur on the series, will not be returning, though it seems both sides are amicable about the situation.

When we last left our merry band of tech innovators, programmers and start up investors the infamous company Pied Piper had taken yet another dramatic pivot. The algorithm company CEO and founder Richard (Thomas Middleditch) had once hoped would revolutionize video compression was pushed to the side for an increasingly popular video chat application developed by Dinesh (Kumail Nanjiani). And, if you’ve ever worked even tangentially close to the tech sector it made a lot of sense and in a way that has always been the biggest strength of Mike Judge’s “Silicon Valley.”

With the fall festivals showing off their wares, Oscar season is firmly underway, with some films falling, and others — “La La Land” and “Jackie,” most notably, rising. But before we get into all of that with full gusto, we still have the minor matter of one of the biggest awards ceremonies in America to deal with, in the shape of this Sunday’s upcoming Emmys.

The biggest thing in the TV calendar, and traditionally marking the end of one ‘season’ and the beginning of a new one for the small screen (though that’s increasingly irrelevant in the days of year-round programming), this year’s winners will be announced in a Jimmy Kimmel-hosted ceremony on Sunday night, though below-the-line Creative Arts Emmys were already announced this past weekend.
