Alex Cox Coming Back To DVD In A Big Way

San Francisco-based distributor Microcinema International has announced they will be rounding up half a dozen films by cult director Alex Cox (“Repo Man”, “Sid and Nancy”) for DVD release.

New to the U.S. on DVD is “Searchers 2.0,” which serves as something of an unofficial sequel to the John Ford-directed western “The Searchers” starring John Wayne. The film follows two out-of-work actors traveling to Arizona to face a filmmaker that terrorized them early in their careers.

Roger Ebert Remembers The Death Of The Russ Meyer/Sex Pistols Film ‘Who Killed Bambi?’

In the history of aborted band-makes-a-movie projects, perhaps only the Beatles’ supposed “Hobbit” and the Rolling Stones’ “A Clockwork Orange” rate higher on the WTF? scale than the unfinished, barely started “Who Killed Bambi?,” the Sex Pistols-Roger Ebert-Russ Meyer collaboration. And the man who brought together the most dangerous band in late-70s Britain, the titan of chest-crazed cinema, and the most important American film critic since Pauline Kael together was one Malcolm McLaren.

McLaren, who owned London’s infamous “SEX” shop with girlfriend Vivienne Westwood before helping create John Lydon’s Sex Pistols, died of cancer in Switzerland on Thursday at age 64.

‘Repo Chick’ Trailer: What The Hell Happened To Alex Cox?

No matter what you think of this… uhh, trailer for “Repo Chick,” the sort-of quasi sequel to Alex Cox’s 1984 classic, “Repo Men,” — and there’s probably only two ways you can view it — it still must serve as some kind of cautionary tale.

And perhaps it begs the question: is this what happens when you’re stuck in director’s jail? Cox’s career kicked off rather excellently with the aforementioned cult-film classic (and he went on to have a seriously good ’80s run including “Sid & Nancy” (’86), “Straight to Hell” (’87) starring The Clash’s Joe Strummer, and the less-successful, but still-celebrated “Walker” (’87, which the Criterion Collection retroactively minted a few years ago).

Paging Captain Obvious: ‘Who Killed Nancy?’ Doc Centers On The Death Of Ill-Fated Sex Pistol’s FUG Girlfriend

Jesus, a whole documentary on who killed Nancy Spungen? Really? Really? Uhh, here’s a clue, that sad, pathetic fucking junkie Sid Vicious. I mean, didn’t the filmmakers see “Sid & Nancy”? Duuuuuh.

Well, disregardless of the obvious, some “mysteries” need further investigation apparently. According to The Journal, a British-based production company has been given some scratch to make the upcoming documentary “Who Killed Nancy?”

The doc will apparently “explore the events that led to the death of Nancy Spungen, girlfriend of the notorious Sex Pistols’ bassist, Sid Vicious.”

Ok, Captain Obvious, good luck with that.
