The 75th Golden Globes were cut from a different cloth than past years. Usually the loose cannon party of the awards season, the proceedings were more muted in 2018 thanks to the #MeToo movement, which saw many presenters and winners use their time on the stage to call for change. However, that didn’t mean there weren’t plenty of memorable moments to go around.

The Golden Globes have always been known as the antidote to the stuffy Oscars. There’s drinks, an open bar, tables with food, a lot of wandering around in between commercials, it’s a very different vibe from the Academy Awards. And with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosting for so many years in a row, the Globes, while lightweight in merit, were, in recent years, definitely seen as the more entertaining, less humorless show.

Hollywood may be in the thick of guild and Oscar voting, but the Television Academy knows Emmy season is right around the corner.  This morning they announced, along with this year’s broadcaster NBC, that the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards will take place on Monday, Sept. 17, 2018.

NBC will broadcast the ceremony live from 8-11 p.m ET / 5-8 p.m. PT from the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles.

While the term Oscar Bait is problematic — Vulture has a great discussion of that topic — it’s a useful shorthand for the kind of movies we’ll see at the Academy Awards on Sunday: namely, they’re serious, dramatic, and don’t feature explosions. For comedians, it’s a handy catch-all to roll with, and Seth Meyers has done just that in a new sketch for ‘Late Night.’

“Oscar Bait” collects all the story tropes you might find in an Oscar-nominated movie, but most amusing is a quick montage of cliché shots, from a scene of man’s hand grazing wheat to that Spike Lee dolly-shot trick to long shot of a man playing solitaire (the narrated breakdown of this moment is pretty funny stuff).
