French Language Trailer: ‘Gainsbourg & His Girls’ Documentary

Ok, so it’s in French and perhaps only for die-hards, but a new trailer has arrived for the new documentary, “Gainsbourg And His Girls,” which will screen at the 2010 CMJ Film Festival and also centers on the many muses of the iconic French singer. They include femmes like Juliette Greco, Brigitte Bardot, Francoise Hardy, Jane Birkin, Anna Karina and Vanessa Paradis, who was never a conquest or collaborator, but appears in the doc.

Co-directed by Pascal Forneri and Didier Varrod; the latter was a radio man, author, and documentarian, and crossed paths with Serge Gainsbourg in 1984 as he began working as a journalist.

New Serge Gainsbourg Biopic ‘ Je t’Aime…Moi Non Plus’ Tops The 2010 Tribeca Film Festival Line-Up

The 2010 Tribeca Film Festival line-up has been unveiled (we all got the press release, but Deadline seems to have received a quick first look). So far the festival has announced that”Shrek 4″ aka “Shrek Forever After” will open the festival, but big name films are few and far between so far. But it is early days and bigger, more A-list films are still expected to be announced (not that we want like a gigantic blockbuster there, but you know…).

Joann Sfar’s biopic, “Gainsbourg: Vie Heroic” (or “Serge Gainsbourg: A Life Heroic” hits theaters in France next week (January 20) which means a pay dirt of new content has surfaced including new photos, a trailer that finally has English subtitles (we showed you the French version a few months ago) and reviews are also trickling in from all over (also the film premiered in Paris this week). The trailer is also a bit NSFW, btw.

First Trailer: ‘Serge Gainsbourg: A Life Heroic’ (French-Language Version)

We’ve already revealed to you plenty of images and a simple video teaser from Joann Sfar’s biopic, about musical French icon, “Serge Gainsbourg: Vie Héroïque” (“A Life Heroic”) and today we have a lot more including the first trailer for the film.

Granted, it’s a French-language trailer, but you don’t need to understand the language to figure out the tenor and tone of the biopic.

The cast of this was is pretty stellar.

Video Teaser: Serge Gainsbourg ‘A Heroic Life’ Biopic

Alright, we already gave you a first look at Joann Sfar’s upcoming Gainsbourg biopic, “Vie Heroique” (“A Heroic Life”) starring Eric Elmosnino as Serge Gainsbourg, and Lucy Gordon (who committed suicide earlier this year, RIP) as Jane Birkin and now, a brief video teaser has arrived (former French Supermodel Laetitia Casta also stars as Brigitte Bardot, but she’s not featured in this clip).

There’s been some debate if the film was called, “Je t’Aime Moi Non Plus” — the song that plays in the background here, written by Gainsbourg and sung by the husband and wife duo.

Nice. Everyone really looks the part. Here’s Eric Elmosnino as Serge Gainsbourg, Laetitia Casta as Brigitte Bardot, Lucy Gordon (who committed suicide earlier this year, RIP) as Jane Birkin and the back of Anna Mouglalis as Juliette Gréco in Joann Sfar’s upcoming Gainsbourg biopic, “Vie Heroique” (“A Heroic Life”). Though note, one report said the film was called, “Je t’Aime Moi Non Plus,” but that’s the name of a Birkin song and even though they were married, and Gainsbourg wrote it, it does seem a little odd.

Scarjo Decides To Switch To More Mainstream Musical Boyfriend

How does one go from TV On The Radio’s Dave Sitek as a producer/collaborator to Pete Yorn? Isn’t that sorta like letting Jim Jarmusch direct and collaborate on your first screenplay, but here’s a better idea, working with Brett Ratner for script two?

Well, that’s basically what covers-happy Scarlett Johansson has done. Her first album of Tom Waits covers was recorded and produced under the aegis of Sitek and for her next album, a collection of duets called, Break Up, with jingly-jangly pop-rocker Pete Yorn (who was probably featured on every episode of “The O.C.” – the spot du jour for toothless, boring folky indie-rock)

The album is made up eight Yorn originals, was inspired by Serge Gainsbourg’s collaboration with with Brigitte Bardot (sorry Pete, you’re no jolie laid louche) and a cover of Big Star’s Chris Bell’s eponymous track, “I Am The Cosmos,” recorded in 1978 and belatedly released on his titular 1992 solo album I Am The Cosmos.

Fantastical Serge Gainsbourg Biopic Gets Picked Up, Sean Penn Teams With Paolo Sorrentino, Denzel Washington’s ‘Brother In Arms’ Set For Rewrite

“Je t’Aime Moi Non Plus,” a biopic for French artist Serge Gainsbourg has been picked up for distribution across Europe. The film, which is directed by comic book artist Joann Sfar, will be more of a fantasy than a biopic and will feature animated creatures, crafted by the “Pan’s Labyrinth” designers, which will symbolize the spirit and imagination of Gainsbourg. Wow, that sounds awesome. [Variety]

On the other end of the spectrum, Peter Berg is in talks to direct a film based on the popular Hasbro board game “Battleship.” Though plot details are being kept under wraps, we’re betting on some sort of epic naval battle.

Lucy Gordon Will Play Jane Birkin In Serge Gainsbourg Biopic, ‘Heroique’

Relatively unknown American actress Lucy Gordon (small part in “Spider-Man 3”) will play muse and wife, Jane Birkin in the upcoming biopic of debaucherous French music icon Serge Gainsbourg.

Tentatively titled, “Vie Heroique” (Heroic Life),” the film will be Universal Pictures first foreign language film and will be the directorial debut by French comic book artist Joann Sfar.

Already cast in the film which starts shooting in January is Eric Elmosnino as Gainsbourg, Laetitia Casta as Brigitte Bardot and Mylene Jampanoi as the eccentric singer’s late-life muse, Bambou (deeper casting info here).

Wes Anderson Directs Brad Pitt In French Fetishized Cellphone Ad

Wes Anderson reveals more of his all-things French fetish in this commercial for Japanese cellphone company Softbank Mobile starring Brad Pitt. The clips is inspired by Jacques Tati’s whimsical 1953 classic, “Mr. Hulot’s Holiday” and the song is (of course) France Gall’s “Poupée de cire poupée de son,” which was written by Serge Gainsbourg (c’mon Wes, this is her greatest hit, dig a little harder). The Arcade Fire started covering this song earlier this year too.

Casting For Serge Gainsbourg ‘Heroic Life’ Film ‘Biopic’ Falling Into Place; Gonzales Doing Some Music

The casting pieces for the long-gestating biopic of notorious French louche and debonair poet of scuzzy panache, Serge Gainsbourg are nicely falling into place. Earlier this Spring, details on the biopic, titled “Serge Gainsbourg: A Heroic Life” (“Vie Héroïque”) came out, but not a lot of North American outlets (including, shamelessly, us) seemed to notice (perhaps cause there wasn’t a ton to report). Directing the film is Joann Sfar, a well-known French comic-book artist, and playing the lead is not, terribly well-known actor Eric Elmosnino.
