Director Bradey Cobert’s “Vox Lux” is something of a bone of contention around these parts and arguably Film Twitter as well. Following strong reviews during the film festival circuit, the Natalie Portman-starring movie began taking it in the teeth when a deeper swath of North American critics saw the film. While it’s fresh on Rotten Tomatoes currently (barely, 61% and falling which soon means rotten), the discourse around the film is polarizing and generally lands on a love/hate relationship with the film.

When you make a musical, no matter what the subject, a majority of the quality rests on the back of the music heard in the film. And when you take a look at filmmaker Brady Corbet’s upcoming musical drama starring Natalie Portman, titled “Vox Lux,” it’s clear that the quality of the music heard is going to go a long way to how people enjoy the finished product.

Instead of simply putting out a Scott Walker soundtrack that acts as a greatest hits collection (thought that would be good for the uninitiated but is a legal quagmire) of his orchestral and moody noir romance songs, Lakeshore records has found a creative alternate route and are releasing a tribute album but it’s certainly not one of those carelessly tossed-off inspired by the film soundtracks we generally loathe.

Regardless, a film and DVD that was supposed to be coming out on Plexi in the spring, the excellent music documentary, “Scott Walker: 30 Century Man,” is now apparently coming out on Beastie Boy Adam Yauch’s Oscilloscope Films.

According to ScreenDaily, the company will “take over” the theatrical self-release that was orchestrated by the film’s director Stephen Kijak and its producers and expand the run.

We found something on Rotten Tomatoes that said the film was coming out November 30 and asked, could this be true? We hoped someone would write us and tell us more and our wish came true. A publicist for “Tôkyô!” saw our post and wrote us, turns out the film is coming out March 6, 2009 in the U.S.

Well, it looks like he’s gone back to his roots a little bit by having Oui Oui guitarist/singer Étienne Charry compose the score for Gondry’s “Interior Design” segment in the three-part vignettes film, “Tokyo!” that screened earlier this year at Cannes and the Woodstock Film Festival (where we missed it by a day).
