The Venice Film Festival has begun and the Toronto International Film Festival is a week away, but in the mountains of Colorado, perhaps one of the most influential festivals in the world has finally announced its slate. The 2024 Telluride Film Festival will screen nearly 60 feature films including world premieres of Malcolm Washington’s “The Piano Lesson,” Edward Berger’s “Conclave,” Michael Gracey’s “Better Man,” Scott McPhee and David Siegel’s “The Friend,” Jason Reitman’s “Saturday Night,” Joshua Oppenheimer’s “The End,” and RaMell Ross’ “Nickel Boys.” Documentary screenings include Morgan Neville’s “Piece by Piece” and Errol Morris’ “Separated.”

The festival will also screen Sean Baker’s Cannes Palme d’Or winner “Anora” as well as award winners such as Jacques Audiard’s “Emilia Perez,” Mohammad Rasoulof’s “The Seed of the Sacred Fig,” and Jesse Eisenberg’s Sundance screenwriting winner “A Real Pain.” Additionally, Pablo Larrain’s “Maria,” starring Angelina Jolie, and Tim Fehlbaum’s “September 5” and Alfonso Cuarón’s “Disclaimer” will make the trip from Venice to Telluride to screen at the festival.

Alright, we’re in the dog days of summer, and this season is almost over. And you know what that means: it’s the season of fall film festival, prestige adult dramas, Oscar contenders, and the occasional blockbuster thrown in for good measure.

Yes, we’re still in the summer, but fall film festival season is right around the corner. And today, we finally have the full lineup of films coming to the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). 

According to TIFF, the event has announced 20 new films that are being added to the final lineup of the festival. Perhaps the biggest new World Premiere film is “Shell” by actor-turned-filmmaker Max Minghella.

If you were trying to set a land speed record for how fast you could shoot a film and put it in theaters, filmmakers James Mangold and Jason Reitman (“Young Adult,” “Up In The Air”) would be vying for that title this year. Both shot their respective movies, “A Complete Unknown” and “Saturday Night,” in March of this year and both films are coming out this year.

It’s only been about a year since it was first announced that Jason Reitman was going to direct a film about the first year of “Saturday Night Live.” Eventually, the full cast was announced and the film was quickly put in production. Now, we have an official title and release date, which seems like the film could be in a prime position for awards season. 

According to Deadline, Jason Reitman’s ‘SNL’ film is now titled “Saturday Night” and will debut in theaters on October 11.
