The 2023 SAG Awards were utterly dominated by “Everything Everywhere All At Once.” It was such a media sweep that many viewers probably closed their YouTube window completely forgetting “The White Lotus” won Outstanding Cast for a Drama Series and that Jennifer Coolidge took the Female Actress in a Drama Series award over fellow HBO star and two-time Emmy Award winner, Zendaya. Throw in Brendan Fraser taking Male Actor in A Motion Picture and it was simply a breathtaking night for A24 Films.

As we near the 2023 Oscars and narratives begin to solidify, the Screen Actors Guild Awards clarified a few and threw one key race into disarray. Surprising nobody, “Everything Everywhere All At Once” took home four of the top five prizes on the night, winning Best Ensemble, Actress, Supporting Actor, and Supporting Actress. That latter category was the shocker as Jamie Lee Curtis swooped in to nab the prize from Awards Season juggernaut Angela Bassett.

Nowadays, it appears the world of awards shows is in flux. The Golden Globes happened this year after controversy forced them away in 2022. There are concerns about declining viewership with the Oscars each year, as the Academy attempts to revive things with new ideas that aren’t always well-received. And now, one of the biggest changes is the new home of the SAG Awards, leaving the confines of cable TV (where it was on TBS and TNT) and is now heading to streaming on Netflix.

For the second year in a row, the Screen Actors Guild announced the prestigious SAG Awards nominations on…Instagram. This time around, Ashley Park and Haley Lu Richardson had the pleasure of revealing the nominees for the 29th edition of the awards. When the dust had settled “The Banshees of Inisherin” and “Everything Everywhere All At Once” made history tying “Shakespeare in Love” and two other films with the most nominations for a film in SAG Awards history, five.
