There are a lot of people offering opinions about the tragedy last year on the set of the Western, “Rust.” Without going through all of the news, this is basically about how Alec Baldwin somehow had a live round in a gun he was using on set, and allegedly discharged the weapon, resulting in the death of cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins. Just recently, it was revealed that Baldwin, along with other members of the “Rust” crew are facing very real criminal charges for their actions that day.

Unlike Chris Rock, fellow comedian and Oscars co-host Amy Schumer didn’t hold back with her opinions on The Slap during her stand-up comedy show at the Mirage Theater in Las Vegas on Saturday. This comes after Schumer said she was “traumatized” and “triggered” by Will Smith assaulting Rock at the Oscars in an Instagram post.

Excerpts from the weekend gig were picked up by Vanity Fair, as the popular comic referred to Smith as “Ali,” the famed boxer he plays in the Michael Mann film, and how the slap was an example of “toxic masculinity.”

Yesterday, the film industry was devastated when it was announced that cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed when a prop gun was discharged on the set of the Western, “Rust.” And now that the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Department has released a statement, there is more information regarding what actually happened on set.

According to the statement, Hutchins and director Joel Souza were both injured when actor Alec Baldwin “discharged” a prop firearm while on the set of “Rust.” Hutchins and Souza were immediately taken to hospitals, but unfortunately, the cinematographer eventually was pronounced dead due to the injuries sustained.

One of the more notable aspects of this year’s Sundance Film Festival is the presence of two features from Brazil, Gustavo Pizzi’s “Loveling” and Aly Muritiba‘s “Rust.” It’s great to see more talent coming out of Brazil and making its way through the festival circuit, but unfortunately, this one fails to impress.

Premiering as a part of the World Cinema Dramatic Competition category, Muritiba’s “Rust” is a cautionary tale of teen trauma in the social media age.
