There are few things as magical as a proper rock act: a band that can perform for decades, grabbing a new batch of eager fans with each passing year while retaining the ingredients that keep them compelling. Rush, the prog-rock outfit from Canada, is just such an act, having eclipsed the majority of their contemporaries and received a resurgence of relevance thanks to movies like “I Love You, Man” and others, that celebrated the rare ability of a band to have a 30 piece drum set and remain humble.

We’ve seen “I Love You, Man” with Paul Rudd and Jason Segel and we must say we were very pleasantly surprised. It’s very much in the Judd Apatow vein of vulgar, but heart-filled comedy and there’s a lot of “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” sincerity and vulnerability that keeps in grounded (Jon Favreau is pretty awesome in it too).

It’s no spoiler to say Rudd and Segel are huge Rush fans in the movie. Yes, Rush the adenoidal Canadian power-rock trio.

Brom-com, “I Love You, Man” starring bff’s Paul Rudd and Jason Segel has itself a soundtrack and its coming out March 17 via Lakeshore records.

Indie-centric in its flavor, the soundtrack features cuts by Beck’s “Soul Of A Man,” from Modern Guilt, Vampire Weekend’s popular Paul Simon-ish hit, “Oxford Comma” (the one with the Wes Anderson-inspired video), Santogold Santigold’s “Lights Out” and tracks by the Black Keys, The Cars and Canadian power-rock trio Rush who have a cameo in the film.

Update: according to a press release we just received, “I Love You, Man” will be the 2009 Opening Night film of the SXSW Film Festival.

Access Hollywood got the exclusive look at Paul Rudd/Jason Segel 2009 comedy, “I Love You, Man,” coming out via Dreamworks/Paramount and co-starring the very lovely, Rashida Jones and Trailer Addict has nabbed it from the tele.

Here’s the synopsis:

“I Love You, Man” follows Peter Klaven (Rudd), a successful real estate agent who, upon getting engaged to the woman of his dreams, Zooey, (Jones), discovers that he has no male friend close enough to serve as his Best Man, so he embarks on a series of bizarre and awkward “man-dates,” before meeting Sydney Fife (Segel).

Rob Zombie’s “Halloween” Leaks Online; Director Shrugs

A early an unfinished workprint of Robert Zombie’s “Halloween” remake (sorry, reimagination) has leaked online and webizens are already downloading, reviewing it and moving on to the next free ride, but Zombie – a man of dubious taste, but consistenly excellent outlook – is taking it all in stride.

“I mean, it’s just the way things are,” Zombie told Vulture without a trace of peevery. “It’s a world of thievery,” he shugged.

Zombie told Time Out New York, that his film was basically a brand new deal.
