But what’s happening with The Daily Wire is something totally different, as the conservative news organization has gone above and beyond trying to share its political views (as toxic and ridiculous as they may be) and is now getting involved with movie distribution, as seen in the new trailer for “Run Hide Fight.”

Before its release at last year’s Venice Film Festival, “Run Hide Fight” had already stoked a bit of controversy, thanks to the combination of the producer of the film, Dallas Sonnier (who is no stranger to conservative views and alleged misconduct), and the subject matter involving a school shooting that is used as a basis for a “Die Hard”-esque story.

So somebody somewhere one day had a thought: “What if ‘Die Hard’ except a school shooting?” and not only didn’t they immediately check themselves for other symptoms of lead poisoning but thought, “Yep, that’s a winner” and went on to make the movie. Presumably, that person was Kyle Rankin, writer-director of the staggeringly misguided, deeply noxious “Run Hide Fight.” But let’s not wholly exonerate all the friends, collaborators, script-readers, caterers, mailmen, grocers, friendly passersby, and supportive family pets who may have had a hand, however slight, in helping this thing to come to pass.

We are less than a month away from the opening night of the Venice Film Festival. Not only is this one of the biggest film festivals of any year, but Venice has even more significance in 2020 after the film festival circuit has been decimated by the pandemic. As of now, it appears that Venice is set to go off with a physical festival in Italy in September, and the event has announced two more high-profile films that will be screened.
