Justin Kurzel’s latest film, “The True History of the Kelly Gang,” has just been released on VOD and seems to have struck a chord with film fans already. This is great news for the filmmaker that is coming off the disappointment of the “Assassin’s Creed” film adaptation. But ‘Kelly Gang’ isn’t the only thing that Kurzel has been working on recently, as he has a number of projects in development and production, including an Apple TV+ series titled “Shantaram,” starring Charlie Hunnam.

Okay, can we just all collectively agree that Justin Kurzel’s “Assassin’s Creed” doesn’t exist? The world would be better (as would many careers) if the Michael Fassbender video game adaptation just never happened. So, with that being said, we have some good news! Kurzel has his next project lined up, and he’s arranged two of the biggest stars in the world to lead the cast.

Actors Margot Robbie and Matthias Schoenaerts have agreed to star in the upcoming World War II thriller “Ruin,” from director Kurzel.

Well, credit to the folks behind The Black List for making writing a lede for this pretty damn easy. So here goes: this morning, the Golden Globes nominations were announced, and now come the scripts that are hoping to collect accolades once Hollywood decides to make them.

For now, they’ll kick around as the best unmade screenplays in Hollywood as part of annual The Black List. The criteria is that these screenplays will not be in production this year, but some of them are already well on their way.

Director Justin Kurzel has flexed his filmmaking muscles a few different ways so far in his career. He broke out with the stomach-churning thriller “The Snowtown Murders,” delivered his atmospheric take on Shakespeare‘s “Macbeth,” and then tried his hand, rather unsuccessfully, with blockbuster fare on “Assassin’s Creed.” Now, he’s tilting back toward something smaller scale, but that once again finds the director in new territory with a war movie.

Justin Kurzel has followed an interesting career path so far. Following his breakout film “The Snowtown Murders,” he jumped into two very different pictures starring Michael Fassbender: the moody, Shakespeare adaptation “Macbeth,” and the massive tentpole “Assassin’s Creed.” The former was an interesting expansion of Kurzel’s skills, while the latter found him a bit lost in the blockbuster machine.
