By contemporary standards, reflection on our shared history is on the rise. Whether in tonal shifts to confront or rectify the past, or informing specific narratives of times audiences have collectively tried to forget, history is ripe for exploration. No one knows this as well as Benjamín Naishtat, whose film”Rojo” seeks to mine through the past by way of an elegant neo-noir.

Yesterday, we revealed the 12 films selected to be part of the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival’s Platform program. TIFF describes the program as one that focuses on distinct voices and assured directorial efforts that address difficult subject matters unflinchingly. This year, there are some major filmmaking names debuting during Platform, but one that is flying under the radar is “Rojo.”
