A show that pushed the star throttle forward in a third outing that added the most acclaimed actresses of all time in Meryl Streep and one of the most likable comedy actors ever in Paul Rudd has not let up on bringing familiar faces into the fold.

It isn’t consciously offensive, mind you, and it isn’t offensive on social terms, either; it’s offensive purely as narrative, a breach against common decency and originality in storytelling. The French have a phrase for yarns like this: “Nostalgie de la boue,” yearning for the mud, in which the author consciously appropriates the stylings of society’s lower classes just to tickle themselves.

In “All We Had,” Holmes, who stars and directs, plays an impoverished single mother in the mid-2000s who does whatever it takes to help support her rebellious teen daughter.

While we were we pleased to see a director seriously tackle issues of spirituality without necessarily addressing religion as Clint Eastwood does in “Hereafter,” we ultimately called the film a “compromised effort” after seeing it at TIFF.

The film, which Eastwood calls his “chick flick,” was written by Peter Morgan (“The Queen,” “Frost/Nixon”) and follows three plotlines: Matt Damon plays a psychic in San Francisco who can’t connect emotionally with his girlfriend (Bryce Dallas Howard) and wants nothing to do with his powers; Cecile DeFrance plays a French TV journalist/talk show host who has a near death experience in the 2004 Tsunami and the third character is a young boy whose twin brother dies in an accident (played by unknowns Frankie and George McClaren).

Richard Kind has joined the cast of David Milch’s HBO horse-racing drama “Luck.”

The actor will play a forty-something jockey’s agent and joins the already illustrious cast of Dustin Hoffman, Dennis Farina, Nick Nolte, John Ortiz, Kevin Dunn, Kerry Condon and Tom Payne, just one of many talent-heavy HBO productions this coming season. Also added to the cast is British actor Ian Hart who will play a loudmouth gambler who comes into some cash.

A host of new images for The Coen Brothers’ “A Serious Man” have been unveiled on the brink of its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Among the photos is our first good look (he only featured in a flash in the recent trailer) at Richard Kind whose portrayal of the protagonist’s (Michael Stuhlbarg) deadbeat brother does have some award-season hype surrounding it — though on what grounds other than Kind’s abilities, we’re not sure.

You’ve seen him in tons of smaller roles and a lot of TV (“Spin City” in particular), but character actor Richard Kind, and even-lesser known Tony-nominated actor Michael Stuhlbarg will star in the Coen Brothers’ next film, “A Serious Man.”

The story focuses on a Midwestern professor (Stuhlberg) in the mid/late 1960’s whose life begins to unfold when his wife leaves him and his socially inept brother (Kind) won’t move out of the house.
