‘Revolver’: Ethan Hawke & Maya Hawke To Star In ‘Finding Dory’ Director’s New Beatlemania Film

Maya Hawke is about to become a victim of Beatlemania. Well, not literally, but she will play a teen obsessed with the rock band in the upcoming film, “Revolver.”

According to Variety, Maya Hawke is set to star opposite her father, Ethan Hawke, in the new coming-of-age film, “Revolver,” directed by Andrew Stanton. As teased above, the film follows the story of a teen girl that lives in Anchorage, Alaska in 1966.

Guy Ritchie Says He’s Making Mainstream ‘Sherlock Holmes’ To Be Loved Again

“I’ve spent too much time messing around in inaccessible, esoteric material,” Guy Ritchie told Entertainment Weekly (though the actual quotes only seem to be in the magazine) presumably meaning obtuse films like the pseudo-philosophical gangster pic, “Revolver” and the critically loathed, “Swept Away.” “I’ve never had my day in popular court. ‘Sherlock Holmes’ will allow me to express my accessible side.”

Translation: I’m trying to make a popcorn rollercoaster ride so I won’t be stuck in Hollywood jail.

Crime Pays? Guy Ritchie’s ‘RockNRolla’ Getting Solid Reviews Despite Its Lock And Stock Cliches

We really thought Guy Ritchie’s “Rock N Rolla,” was going to bomb. Our man on the scene Mr. Snruff disliked it and we felt much the same. It was a total, predictable rehash of everything you’ve seen Ritchie do already, but nowhere near as fresh, entertaining, funny or clever. The crime caper was amusing in spots, but overall pretty forgettable. What’s worse the end just serves as a sort-of cliffhanger (not really though) that is supposed to jump off to the sequel that’s called, “The Real Rock N Rolla.”

At the end we were like, “Wtf?

Guy Ritchie To Helm Iconic British Detective Flick? No Shit, Sherlock

After the two-fer disasters that were, “Swept Away” and “Revolver,” does Hollywood have faith in Guy Ritchie again?

Sounds like it. The U.K. director has signed on to write and direct a reimagining of the iconic British detective Sherlock Holmes for Warner Bros according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Seems slightly odd as Ritchie’s work tends to be fast, hip and kinetic – not exactly the type of movie you’d expect for a Sherlock Holmes-y super sleuth film, but fittingly – the concept is said to be a new take on the character, more adventuresome than stuffy and will dig into more “obscure character traits” (opium smoking perhaps?)

Does this mean, “RockNRolla,” coming this October and also produced by Warner Bros.

So of late, we’ve discussed the long-delayed and belated release of Guy Ritchie’s Id-fueled psychological gangster film, “Revolver.”

After tanking in Europe in 2005, the film finally limped into North American theaters last week. We finally saw the UK original cut about a week before its New York release and were curious what the “retooled” version was like and wondered aloud if we should bother seeing this new North American cut. Thankfully, we didn’t and the news on the tweaks are really disappointing.

Remember our prescient post back in May about Guy Ritchie‘s stalled career?

We asked where the filmmaker had disappeared to, we bemoaned the fact that his 2005 “Revolver,” was never properly released in the U.S. (we have a copy and haven’t even bothered yet), recapped how it was allegedly so terrible it couldn’t even find a proper North American release and then just mere days later it was announced that Ritchie was coming out of hiding to direct “Rock N Rolla” – yet another caper heist film which stars Gerard Butler, Jeremy Piven and Ludacris.
