Gael Garcia Bernal Is ‘Earthbound’; De Niro and Spike Lee Developing Cable Series

– Gael Garcia Bernal is in negotiations to star alongside Kate Hudson in the romantic drama “Earthbound,” as a doctor that a terminally ill woman (Hudson) falls for. Nicole Kassell, director of the underrated Kevin Bacon drama “The Woodsman,” takes the helm, and it’ll start filming January 18th. Buying shares in companies that make tissues is probably a good move at this point.

– We were all over this story weeks ago, but Variety has confirmed that Sam Mendes and Christopher Hampton are teaming up to adapt Joseph O’Neill’s brilliant novel “Netherland.” Focus Features, where Mendes’ company Neal Street Productions has a first look deal, will distribute, and CEO James Schamus says, “This project’s emotional power has resonated with us all.”

– John Ridley (“U-Turn,” the upcoming “Red Tails”) is developing a new drama series for Showtime, which will be executive produced by Spike Lee and Robert De Niro.

‘500 Days’ Indie Deluxe Soundtrack Revealed

We’ve repeatedly referred to “500 Days of Summer” as “The Shins of indie movies” and, upon reviewing the recently revealed soundtrack, it seems we were right, at least musically speaking. It contains every imaginable twee-as-fuck indie rock song EXCEPT something from The Shins (who are still so tainted by that “Garden State” mention that they’re not permitted to place their songs prominently in any indie films until 2020 according to direct orders from Jesus – but he was wearing a trucker hat at the time so the binding legality is obviously questionable).

Regina Spektor, Switchfoot, & Oren Lavie Tapped To Sing Closing Songs For Narnia’s ‘Prince Caspian’

Apparently the end-credits of “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” are long. Long enough to host three new songs from singers you may have heard of including New York indie-darling Regina Spektor, radio-ready alt-rockers Switchfoot and lesser known Berlin-based songwriter Oren Lavie according to L.A. Times music blog Extended Play.

The soundtrack, which features a score by Harry Gregson-Williams, was released yesterday and can be previewed on the official Disney site. Spektor sings a piano-track not unlike her everyday material called, “The Call,” Lavie sings the warm ballad, “A Dance ‘Round the Memory Tree” and Switchfoot sing the anthemic lighters-in-the-air track, “This Is Home,” which is expected to be the big single from the record (or at least the one certainly to be pushed to jockeys).

Sondre Lerche Reveals “Dan In Real Life” Tracklist

As we first reported last week, Norwegian singer/songwriter Sondre Lerche has composed the score to the Steve Carrell film, “Dan In Real Life.”

As we noted then, ginger-haired indie pianist Regina Spektor guests on the newly written track, “Hell No.” While the trailer for the film does feature the Pete Townshend hit “Let My Love Open The Door,” Lerche covers the song himself on the soundtrack. A total of 13 new track were recorded for the album.
