The cast was subpar (Jessica Alba and Ioan Gruffudd in particular) and the jokes were painfully corny and unfunny. The special effects weren’t amazing either.

But Hollywood’s motto with comic book franchise is: if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again, the conventional wisdom being there is a ton of money to be made somewhere.
