Wes Anderson’s soundtracks were initially known for their Rolling Stones, David Bowie, The Who, and lots of ’60s and 70s rock at first. Yes, it’s true. We’ve been hard on Jared Hess’ “Gentlemen Broncos,” cause it just looks… not like our thing… and right now it’s sitting at a rather poor 12% score on Rotten Tomatoes so maybe our prejudging distaste for the silly looking film is very justified (though our reviewer, who didn’t love it, was kinder to it than the consensus).

But we will say this, the music featured in the film is rather excellent and well-chosen.

Cat Power Soundtracks New ‘Revolutionary Road’ Trailer

There’s another new gorgeous trailer for “Revolutionary Road” courtesy of Variety and instead of Nina Simone (“Wild Is The Wind” in the original trailer), this time there’s a modern throwback singer soundtracking the piece: Cat Power ( Her “Sea Of Love” cover from the 2000’s The Covers Record).

The Sam Mendes-directed film that reunited “Titanic” lead stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet looks fabulous (god, the cinematography of Roger Deakins looks astounding, even when he’s mostly kept indoors he shines) and it’s getting by nothing but good buzz so far (it’s been called a “modern classic” already).

In lieu of a proper review cause we didn’t have time to write it today, here’s a little music preview of Kimberly Peirce’s newest film, the post-Iraq-war soldiers drama,”Stop-Loss” (it’s surprisingly good).

Many have noted and appropriately called us out on our knee-jerk reaction to the use of meathead metal rockers Drowning Pool’s “Bodies” in the trailer which we originally thought was a little crass considering soliders and innocents were dying and all, but as you guys so tigerishly pointed out, “Soliders listen to that kind of shit; it’s very appropriate, shut the fuck up.” Ok, point taken.

Todd Haynes Talks “I’m Not There” Soundtrack

The world is starting to catch up. USA Today spoke to director Todd Haynes about the “I’m Not There” soundtrack which we’ve been, ummm…, following rather closely. The article talks about the 2-disc details and tracklist we already reported, but there are some interesting quotes.

They also re-confirmed the identities of the Million Dollar Bashers, a group we revealed, this past Saturday.

Haynes said of the highly-sought, “I’m Not There” Dylan original bootleg track: “He has one imperfect recording of it, and it feels raw, but it’s just gorgeous.
