Will Ferrell is ready to make a Netflix series, and he’s teaming with Ramy Youssef to make it happen. 

According to a just-released Netflix announcement, Ferrell and Youssef are set to star opposite each other in the new series “GOLF” (yes, it’s capitalized). The exact plot of the series isn’t known, but we do know that Ferrell will play a fictional golf legend in the show.

In some ways, it’s been a pretty great 12 months for Ramy Youssef. Last spring he won his first Peabody Award as the co-creator and executive producer of Netflix‘s “Mo” and this winter he could be found on the big screen alongside Emma Stone in the global box office hit and Oscar-nominated “Poor Things.” As an Egyptian-American, however, he’s been vocal about his frustration with the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and, it appears that may partially be the subject matter of his new HBO comedy special, “Ramy Youssef: More Feelings” which dropped its first trailer today.

Just the other day, I said not enough people are talking about Hulu’s “Ramy” season three on my timeline. And maybe I’m just following the wrong people on social media, but “Ramy” is one of the best shows on television that continues to be hilarious and cringe, filled with so many uncomfortable situations. Yet it’s also layered with so much depth with ideas of faith, belief, identity, purpose, and in this season, ideas of “Maktub,” the Arabic word for what is already decreed, or established; “as it is written,” if you will.

If nothing else, the 2020 Golden Globe Awards was a mercurial and occasionally jarring tonal affair, veering from deeply-earnest tributes and speeches to moments of bitter sarcasm (ahem, Ricky Gervais), often in the space of only a few seconds. Part of that had to do with Gervais’ knife’s edge performance as host — no doubt, the star-studded auditorium didn’t exactly warm up to his occasionally-savage opening monologue — and part of it had to do with the truly surprising crop of winners, from “Missing Link” (beating out two Disney blockbusters for Best Animated Motion Picture) to the night’s big victor “1917,” which triumphed over expected winner “The Irishman” for Best Motion Picture – Drama.
