On paper, the idea of using instrumental, old-timey piano styled versions of popular songs in “Westworld” seems a bit cheeseball. However, like pretty much everything else in HBO‘s hit series, the idea worked pretty brilliantly in execution. And as you patiently wait for the second season to arrive in 2018, the full soundtrack has been released to kill at least some of that time.

All the tracks you heard in the show including jams from Radiohead (“No Surprises,” “Motion Picture Soundtrack,” “Fake Plastic Trees,” “Exit Music (For A Film)”), Soundgarden (“Black Hole Sun”), The Rolling Stones (“Paint It Black”) and more are here, along with Djawadi’s standard score work as well.

Marvel Studios Now Micro-Managing Scores: Disney Vet Brought In For ‘Iron Man 2’ And ‘Captain America’ Motifs

The Hollywood Reporter has just posted an interesting piece on the evolution of a blockbuster movie score. The framing is the upcoming release of “Iron Man 2,” and composer John Debney talks candidly about what he’s added to the film series, particularly in trying to keep the spirit of what we heard from composer Ramin Djwadi and guitarist Tom Morello in the original film. We were fans of the first “Iron Man,” but the score was fairly unremarkable, though Marvel Studios is waiting for their one big superhero theme which hasn’t surfaced in any of their films thus far (count us fans of the very different individual compositions from each “X-Men” film, however).

In our collective race (the blog race) to track the minutia of projects like “Iron Man 2,” we feel more and more like what the studios would have us be — an unpaid marketing wing/street team for every silly little whiff or metallic “Iron Man” newness (the blogs that live in a world where this dilemma never even occurs to them is surely a blissfully ignorant land we secretly wish we lived in).
Still, while the launch of a new “Iron Man 2” website isn’t much of any kind of story, it does provide some new semi-interesting ephemera surrounding the film.

Tom Morello Playing Guitar On ‘Iron Man 2’ Score

Tom Morello has joined composer John Debney in scoring for Jon Favreau’s “Iron Man 2.”

The Rage Against The Machine guitarist had a short cameo in the first film and contributed some guitar work to the score as was well. so it’s no major surprise he’ll be doing the same for the sequel. Don’t get too excited though, it’s almost certainly not going to be a composing credit (he didn’t get one on “Iron Man”) and Morello is simply playing the guitar tracks for the music Debney composes.

‘Iron Man’ Soundtrack Won’t Feature Your Favorite Black Sabbath Song

What? A soundtrack to “Iron Man” and no titular Black Sabbath song? Yup, it’s true. In fact, all the hard rockin’ songs in the trailer – AC/DC’s “Back In Black,” Filter’s “Hey Man, Nice Shot,” Audioslave’s “Cochise,” and Curve’s “Hell Above Water” (from the 2001 album The Gift) – are absent from the soundtrack and that’s likley cause they won’t be featured in the film.

Due May 6 on Lion’s Gate records, the soundtrack disc mostly features score from composer Ramin Djawadi (“Prison Break”) as well as several “bonus tracks” including nervy skate-punk classic “Institutionalized” by Suicidal Tendencies (“All he wanted was a Pepsi!”).
