Anytime Stallone’s had a huge hit on his hand he’s turned the film into a franchise and one that often undid all the goodwill of the original films. There have been seven “Rocky” films – many of them good, but the last few really sullied the series until Ryan Coogler brought back some respectability in “Creed”- three ‘Expendables’ films, and of course four “Rambo” films (it’s kind of a miracle that there are no sequels to “Cobra,” “Tango & Cash” and “Demolition Man“).

It was announced today that Warner Bros. would be releasing Zack Snyder’s “Sucker Punch” on IMAX 3D March 25th, 2011. Already announced for regular vanilla 3D, it will be Snyder’s fourth straight directorial effort in the IMAX format, making him the unofficial IMAX go-to guy, we guess. We can’t wait until Snyder’s personal pet project about growing up in the slums opens on the widest screen possible in 2022.

Alan Tudyk has been added to the fairly impressive cast of “Transformers III: Rock ‘Em, Sock ‘Em Robots,” joining a crew of thesps that includes John Malkovich and Frances McDormand as people who are totally, incredibly above this type of shit.

“I think Rambo’s pretty well done. I don’t think there’ll be any more. I’m about 99 percent sure.”

So ends the long journey of a pop culture icon. Despite long-standing speculation that Sylvester Stallone would write, direct and star in a fifth film in the “Rambo” series later this year, the man himself has finally come clean to Empire Magazine about his desire to retire one of his most beloved characters. Stallone had already negotiated with Millennium Films about a follow-up to 2008’s “Rambo,” which brought in $113 million worldwide on a minimal budget, but when talking to the press, the plot kept changing to the point where it seemed Stallone didn’t have a handle on where to take the character himself.

– Here’s your first look at Seth Rogen as Britt Reid, the title character’s alter ego, in Michel Gondry’s “The Green Hornet.” Cameron Diaz and Gondry also feature. Of all places, this was screen-capped from a birthday greeting video to musician Beyonce.

– Leonard Nimoy has admitted that his “Elder Spock” character will not be returning in any potential “Star Trek” sequels. “I think the Spock character is very well established as portrayed by Zachary Quinto,” Nimoy told fans at some geek convention.

– Despite the atrocity that was the “Transformers” sequel, Michael Bay is set to return to another one of his franchises. Scribe Peter Craig has been tapped to pen a screenplay to a third installment in the “Bad Boys” series. No one has inked any deals but it is hoped the project will reunite Bay with producer Jerry Bruckheimer and actors Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, who play Miami detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett.

Sylvester Stallone’s beefed up action flick “The Expendables” is getting a little musical aid from Godsmack frontman Sully Erna, 93X in Minneapolis reports. Erna got in when a friend who happens to be editing the film told him Stallone was looking for music. Erna sent them a track called “Sinner’s Prayer” and Stallone reportedly liked it. Who wouldn’t with a title like that? [ed.: Sounds like an Army commercial waiting to happen to us.]

Erna was in the middle of finishing up his first solo endeavor at the time, though he says now that the album will be delayed for the usual marketing reasons.
