The Producers Guild of America revealed their 2020 PGA Awards nominations in both film and television setting up races for both the Oscars and Emmys over the next eight months. On the film side, “Parasite,” “1917,” “Ford v. Ferrari,” “The Irishman,” “Jojo Rabbit,” “Joker,” “Knives Out,” “Little Women,” “Marriage Story” and “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood” made the cut. Television nominees for Drama Series included “Watchmen,” “Big Little Lies,” “The Crown,” “Succession” and “Game of Thrones.”

The Comedy Series nominees lined up with most of last year’s Emmy category: “Fleabag,” “Veep,” “Barry,” “The Marvelous Mrs.

The Television Academy handed out the first wave of Emmy Awards this year with Saturday night’s Creative Arts Emmy ceremony in downtown Los Angeles. The winners of 46 awards were announced Saturday with another 49 awards getting their moment tomorrow night. The remaining honors will be announced on Sunday, Sept. 22nd during a primetime telecast on FOX.

Television Academy voters don’t get to vote until August 15, but the nation’s television critics had their say Saturday night in awarding the best in episodic content over the past year.  The TCA Awards have always been slightly ahead of the curve, but they made a major statement honoring “Fleabag” with three major wins including the prestigious Program of the Year.  In a year where “Veep’s” inevitable Emmy win for Outstanding Comedy Series seems less and less inevitable and “The Marvelous Mrs.

Netflix is notorious for not releasing viewing statistics for its content. Hell, even when the streaming service releases films in cinemas, it never tells you how much they earned at the box office. So, when Netflix decides to unveil its Best of 2018 lists, you know these categories aren’t going to be your typical rankings. However, even though the service won’t rank its favorite or most-watched films of the year, Netflix does give a pretty good overview of what its subscribers like most in 2018.

The Television Academy handed out the rest of the Creative Arts Emmy Awards on Sunday evening and it turned out to be quite a historic night. When “Jesus Christ Superstar Live In Concert” took the Outstanding Variety Special (Live) Emmy it meant that Executive Producer John Legend earned his first Emmy award. It also meant Legend became the first African-American man to win EGOT, also known as earning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award.

HOLLYWOOD – If there has been one universal hit among talk show bookers,YouTube content creators and Instagram fanatics this calendar year it’s been the cast of “Queer Eye.”  The reboot of “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” debuted on Netflix Feb. 7 and unless you’ve been living under a mainstream media rock over the intervening months its cast of “experts” have literally been everywhere.  And after watching them interact with moderator Nicole Byer (equally as fantastic as the host of Netflix’s “Nailed It”) for a panel sponsored by GLSEN (conveniently timed the day before Emmy voting begins) it’s hard not to succumb to their infectious charm.

The Television Critics Association handed out their 2018 TCA Awards last night and the big winner was a longtime TCA favorite, “The Americans.”  The FX drama took home three honors for its final season including Program of the Year, Outstanding Achievement in Drama and Individual Achievement in Drama (Keri Russell).  Last year’s winner in the former two of those categories, “The Handmaid’s Tale,” went home empty handed.

The Television Critics Association announced the nominations for the 34th TCA Awards this morning and the program with the most nominations was something of a surprise.  BBC America’s “Killing Eve” earned five nods including Program of the Year and recognition for stars Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh in the Individual Achievement in Drama category.

The five other nominees in the Program of the Year field, the most prestigious honor from the TCA, include “Atlanta,” “The Americans,” “The Good Place,” “This Is Us” and last year’s winner, “The Handmaid’s Tale.”  Hulu’s breakout series earned three nominations as did FX’s “Atlanta,” Amazon Studios’ “Marvelous Mrs.
