There are rumors we hope are completely wrong. And then there are rumors that make us scratch our head and question everything we know about life. Page Six recently posted a rumor that is so strange, but also obvious, that we just couldn’t sit by and not share it with our readers.

According to an interview with a Queen music video director (and supposed close, personal friend to the band) Rudi Dolezal, the band is currently discussing ways to create a “Bohemian Rhapsody” sequel.

Originally rumored to only feature performances by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper singing “Shallow,” as well as Kendrick Lamar and SZA performing “All the Stars,” the actual telecast featured the former, but not the latter, complemented by several other performances that range from “meh” to “good.”

The 2019 Oscars kicked off with a huge performance by Queen (with Adam Lambert providing vocals).

With the highly-publicized controversy surrounding the hosting and the seemingly endless attempts by ABC to somehow make the Academy Awards more popular, this year’s Oscars already seems destined to go down as one of the more disappointing. And adding to that is the recent controversy about which musical performances will or won’t be shown during the telecast, including a performance from a legendary rock band that will actually not happen.

In a statement to the media, Fox said only the following: “Twentieth Century Fox Film has temporarily halted production on Bohemian Rhapsody due to the unexpected unavailability of Bryan Singer.”

A representative for Singer told the BBC the absence was due to “a personal health matter concerning Bryan and his family.”

First Look: Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury in ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’

No matter the case, Singer has clearly tested the patient of the studio and the film’s star, Rami Malek.

One of the more surprising, and yet in hindsight somewhat obvious, casting decisions of the year was the announcement a month or two ago that Sacha Baron Cohen would play the late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in a biopic of the star, to be written by Oscar-winning writer Peter Morgan, and produced by Graham King (“The Town,” “The Departed”). Morgan’s a busy bee at the moment, with Fernando Meirelles prepping his script “360,” the thriller “Riptide” in development at Summit, possibly with Brad Pitt and Shia LaBoeuf circling, and now the MGM situation is clearing up, he should eventually get around to penning Sam Mendes’ Bond movie.

The casting of a legendary musician in a biopic can be a tricky thing. Sometimes the actor can seem like a natural fit (Gary Oldman in “Sid and Nancy,” for instance), and sometimes they can come from left field (we certainly never imagined Joaquin Phoenix as Johnny Cash, although he did a solid job). There can also be the disastrous picks, as anyone who’s seen Kevin Spacey as Bobby Darin in “Beyond The Sea” can attest to.

We thought, “sure, this could be fun” and set it aside, but it’s joyous, celebratory genius. Something good to watch before you jet off for Thanksgiving. We seriously grinned ear to ear watching this clip (the lighting is also soo perfect).

Just because we didn’t really care for Jody Hill’s semi-rancid, “Observe & Report” (more ballsy and brazen than smart, we digress), doesn’t mean we didn’t appreciate some of the musical choices in the film.

Sure, the film suffered from far too many music montages (which acted in lieu of proper transitions it seems), but the choices of the music itself was pretty solid.

We revealed the soundtrack details exclusively back in March, which included nice, atypical deep cuts by The Band (their cover of Bob Dylan’s “When I Paint My Masterpiece” opens the film with thematic delusional greatness) defunct British noise rockers McClusky, ’60s British mod act, The Action, gnarly Chicago punk rockers, The Dwarves and the trailer songs by The Yardbirds and ’70s British progressive jazz-rockers Patto.

Doesn’t that headline sound like a meta version of an Indiana Jones movie? Maybe Spielberg and company woulda had more luck if they made Dr. Jones head to Kasikstan to look for the missing reels in Orson Welles’ “The Magnificent Ambersons.”

Oh well. Anyhow, to our above point. One of cinema’s holy grails has been found. The missing reels from Fritz Lang’s legendary, silent science fiction masterpiece, “Metropolis” – the most expensive movie ever made at the time in 1927 – have been discovered in Argentina according to German weekly newspaper Die Zeit (the Argentines were Nazi sympathizers, there’s the connection!

Remake whatever you want. Go for it, we know there’s nothing we can do to stop you, but if you are going to remake the campy ’80s sci-fi, err…classic…, “Flash Gordon” – which appears to be the plan by Sony who apparently won the bidding war (there was a bidding war for Flash Gordon??), at least have the human decency to include the original music by theatrically pomous British rockers Queen, ok?

You sort of owe it to the memory of Freddy Mercury.
