Universal To Develop A ‘Mamma Mia’-Esque Original Film Musical Based On The Songs Of Prince

We have good news, and potentially bad news. First, the good news because it’s Monday and it’s best to ease into such matters. A new report says that Universal Pictures is going to make a new film based on the music of now-deceased music legend, Prince. But the bad news is that it’s not exactly the type of film you’re hoping it might be.

Variety is reporting that Universal has gone ahead and purchased the rights to a number of songs written by Prince.

Vanity Fair’s Lists Their “Top 50 (Mostly) Rock Soundtracks of All Time”

Remember we told you about Vanity Fair’s “Top 50 Soundtracks of All Time” which featured Prince’s “Purple Rain” at number 1, The Beatles’ “A Hard Days Night” at 2 and the reggae classic “The Harder They Come” at 3?

Well, Vanity Fair, in their “Movies Rock” issue (practically dedicated to our raison d’être) have finally put out their Top 50 list (but it’s not online).

The top 10 which we had already posted last month looked like this: In bold are some of our particular favorites and linked are any previous posts we’ve done about these soundtracks (generally with mp3 context).

Vanity Fair: ‘Purple Rain’ Bestest Soundtrack Ever

Vanity Fair is so inspired by what we do [riiiiiight] they are putting out an one-time issue called “Movies Rock” where they will reveal their subjective editorial picks for the Top 50 Soundtracks of All Time.

Number one of their list is The Artist Formerly Known, or still known as Prince’s “Purple Rain.” The issue comes out in November and is only available to those that subscribe to VF (hey, Kamp, can you loan us a copy?
