As ‘Rogue One‘ proved, even for a franchise as huge as “Star Wars,” is not above making changes on the fly, or starting with one idea, only to pivot to something else entirely later on. And it’s a process “Sons Of Anarchy” creator Kurt Sutter learned first hand when he was tapped to work on what became “Punisher: War Zone.” Hired early on to work on a script for the followup to “The Punisher,” the eventual movie that hit theaters bore little resemblance to what he had envisioned, so much so that he took his name off the movie (for reasons he explained in detail).

We covered the Marvel panels rather thoroughly here, but there was one more surprise on the way, as booed Marvel Chief Kevin Feige claimed that the toxic “Punisher” brand name, which has survived three underperforming films is now back in Marvel hands, and the gun-toting vigilante will make a re-appearance in the onscreen Marvel universe (the character was played by Dolph Lundgren, Thomas Jane and Ray Stevenson, in the previous three iterations).

Could he pop up in “The Avengers”?

Be prepared for a true movie treasure chest hitting DVD this week. The fine folks at Kino have released a boxed set of the work of F.W. Murnau, including “Nosferatu,” “Faust,” “The Last Laugh,” “Tartuffe,” “The Haunted Castle” and “The Finances Of The Grand Duke.” Within Murnau’s work, you’ll find the early traces of the modern cinematic vocabulary, as its almost a joke how far he was above most contemporaries- and if you’re a nerd who isn’t really intrigued with movie history, perhaps you’ll take a peek based on the legend that “The Last Laugh” strongly inspired the look of the Joker in the early “Batman” comic books.

Like you haven’t heard by now. As we figured, “Four Christmases” topped the box-office again and “Twilight” came in second. ” Despite debuting on 2,500 screens, “Punisher: War Zone” couldn’t even crack the box-office top 5 and had to settle at a #8 position with only $4 million dollars. This is the third time they’ve tried to reboot this Marvel franchise and every single time its been mostly a colossal failure. Clearly someone is doing something wrong.

It’s a slow box-office weekend and presumably one of last week’s winners like “Four Christmases” or “Bolt” will reign supreme. Even “Twilght” should probably do better than this week’s two big openers, “Cadillac Records” and “Frost/Nixon,” but maybe we’re underestimating the Beyonce, music-loving crowd? Somehow we doubt it.

To be fair, “Frost/Nixon”s release is a limited one, so there’s no way its toppling anyone. Critics seemed to love this one and it has a 90% Rotten Tomatoes Rating.
