In a ceremony full of upsets, there was none bigger than “Hacks” winning Comedy Series. We’re still not recovered from it. Then again, there were also a lot of expected winners. Netflix had a lot to celebrate as “Baby Reindeer” won six Emmy Awards including Limited or Anthology Series. But you know who really had a lot to celebrate? FX “Shōgun” won both the coveted Drama Series Emmys and a ton of other awards for “The Bear.”

Before the Primetime Emmy Awards began FX’s “Shōgun” had already made history winning 14 statues for the Creative Arts Emmy ceremonies That’s the most wins for a Drama Series in one year and, more incredibly, a single program in one year.

The Primetime Emmy Awards are finally here. Originally scheduled for September 19, the 75th Anniversary edition was delayed due to the WGA and SAG strikes. Now, after both the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards have handed out awards to “Succession,” “The Bear” (granted, for season two), and “Beef,” we’ve had a ceremony that has once again honored, “Succession,” “The Bear” and “Beef” in major categories. And a ceremony that over-scared winners so much there were two awards to hand out over the last 12 minutes of the show.

January is going to be slightly busier than normal. With the SAG and WGA strikes currently still ongoing, it was only a matter of time before the Television Academy and this year’s Emmy broadcast partner, FOX, moved the ceremony out of its originally scheduled Sept. 19th berth. It’s only slightly surprising the telecast will now occur four months later on Martin Luther King Day, Monday, January 15.

That date pushes the Emmys off its usual Sunday slot but makes sense with NFL playoff games in effect that weekend.

After the COVID crisis just three years ago, Hollywood is once again at a historic moment. Strikes by the Screen Actors Guild and the Writers Guild of America have brought the production of anything narrative to a halt. Stars are no longer promoting their films or television shows and the networks have released updated fall schedules dominated by reality programming. Things are so dire that CBS is planning on airing reruns of “Yellowstone” and the original British version of “Ghosts.” However, despite fears that this work stoppage could last for months, voting for the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards is still moving forward.

Oh, and FOX, which is broadcasting this year’s ceremony announced the telecast will take place on Monday, September 18.

The 74th Primetime Emmy Awards are almost a month away and, just in the nick of time, it finally has a host. The Television Academy announced that Keenan Thompson will emcee the event on Monday, September 12. The “Saturday Night Live” star is a six-time nominee who won the Outstanding Music and Lyrics Emmy in 2018 for “Come Back Barak.” Thompson has also been nominated three times for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for “SNL” and once for Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for “Keenan.”

After dominating the three Creative Arts Emmys categories, the Primetime Emmy ceremony is their shot to truly cement their Emmy legacy. Based on our predictions for Sunday night, it will add up to the streamer’s best Emmys ever.

We’ve scoured candidates from the past year months of television and come up with just 12 actors that we believe have a shot at an Emmy nomination for Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. Eight of them will make it, but at this point, we’d only bet on one of them, “The Handmaid’s Tale’s” Bradley Whitford. That’s because none of the other seven nominees in last year’s field qualify this time around.

The “Ted Lasso” star already won a SAG Award and Golden Globe for his performance and that’s just on the acting side. His work has also landed him WGA Award and a PGA Award that would have likely been his if “Schitt’s Creek” hadn’t qualified for one more year.

There is a strong chance Kate McKinnon, Chloe Fineman, Maya Rudolph, and Cecily Strong could break that record. And as much as we love their talent, we’re not so sure that’s a great thing for the Emmys overall.
