“Predator 5” also known as “Skulls/Skull” coming from director Dan Trachtenberg (“10 Cloverfield,” “Black Mirror,” “The Boys“) has been shooting in Calgary, Alberta, Canada with a mostly unknown cast. Producers John Davis and David Fox have now dished to Collider about the fifth installment giving some insight into the secretive fifth installment.

I do not envy anyone writing a horror franchise, much less those writing on one that only has one good installment like “Predator.” John McTiernan‘s 1987 film with Arnold Schwarzenegger is god-tier classic. Still, unlike James Cameron’s “Aliens,” this franchise was never able to find a second installment that breathed new life into it. Each of the four iterations that have followed, “Predator 2,” “Predators” and most recently Shane Black’s “The Predator” in 2018, have all been largely uninspired riffs on a ragtag motley crew of disparate people that get picked off by the alien in question with little in the way of thrills or surprises.

In an interview with Moviehole back in 2004, Rodriquez discussed the “Predator 3” script he had written, “Oh, “Predators”, yes we’re the “Predator 3”, it’s call “Predators.” It was back when I was doing “Desperado.” I wrote “Desperado,” it was going to get made like end of September, and then “Last Action Hero” bombed, so they said we’re not making any movies for a year, like next year.
