A mysterious teaser titled “Oz” has hit YouTube with the description “Polish Brothers’ OZ, based on the beloved children’s classic by L. Frank Baum. Hitting screens everywhere in 2011.” The project doesn’t exist on IMDB and appears to be something the directors of “Twin Falls Idaho,” “Northfork” and “The Astronaut Farmer” have been working on in secret.

They’re the twin brother writing and directing team who came to prominence with the quirky drama “Twin Falls Idaho” and the magical-realist “Northfork.” They then went Hollywood with “The Astronaut Farmer” but have since fallen on hard times with two completed films — “Manure” starring Billy Bob Thorton and “Stay Cool” starring Winona Ryder and Hilary Duff — still sitting on the shelf hoping to find some kind of release. We can’t remember the last time a team with two films sitting on the shelf kept getting money to make movies, but then again we never figured “Anchorman 2” and “Zoolander 2” wouldn’t get greenlit so what do we know.

The film is going to be directed by the Polish Brothers who directed the very excellent 1999 film “Twin Falls Idaho” and the equally remarkable 2003 fantasia, “Northfork.” Too bad “The Astronaut Farmer” looked rather terrible. The project is said to be a “knowing-your-age comedy,” chronicling a writer (Polish) forced to finally face his high school crush (Ryder) when making a commencement address to graduating seniors.
