Want French dance rockers Phoenix to deliver some gorgeous sunkissed ambient score to Sofia Coppola’s L.A father/daughter tale, “Somewhere” starring Stephen Dorff and Elle Fanning?

The band once said their atmospheric (and percolating) song, “Love Like A Sunset,” was going to be the basis for the film’s entire score; the song is a lush and evocative number befitting of its romantic title (to be fair, it’s like four instrumental songs in one, but we assume the last 1/4th is the part Coppola zeroed in on).

Sofia Coppola’s ‘Somewhere’ Trailer Debuts; Looks Like A ‘Lost In Translation’ Sequel

After the poster hit last week, it was only a matter of time until a trailer appeared for Sofia Coppola’s “Somewhere” (despite the film’s December 22nd release date), and our first look at the film has just gone online at Apple (via In Contention).

The film, widely expected to premiere at the Venice International Film Festival, seems to share a great deal of DNA with Coppola’s most successful film to date, “Lost In Translation” — with a plot involving a spoilt movie star based in a luxury hotel (in this case, the legendary Chateau Marmont in L.A.).

Phoenix Says ‘Love Like A Sunset’ Features In The Soundtrack To Sofia Coppola’s ‘Somewhere’

Sofia Coppola’s upcoming “Somewhere” is definitely on our list of eagerly awaited films in 2010. Just to recap, the film stars Stephen Dorff and Elle Fanning, and centers on a hard-living Hollywood star whose transient life at the Chateau Marmont is turned on its head when his estranged, 11 year old daughter drops in for an unexpected visit.

As we reported last fall, Thomas Mars of Phoenix (and Coppola’s partner) has long been attached to the scoring duties for the film, that has been described as having a “airy, open, transparent” vibe (wow, shocking).

Sofia Coppola To Adapt Phoenix’s ‘Love Like A Sunset’ Into A Film?

Speaking with the New York Times, Phoenix front man Thomas Mars has revealed that partner Sofia Coppola is currently adapting his song “Love Like A Sunset” into a film of some sort.

The predominantly instrumental, two-part song is the fourth and fifth tracks on Phoenix’s latest album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix with only a few lines of lyrics in its latter half.

It’s not made clear if the project will simply be just a music video, a short inspired by the song or a feature length film but the report does specifically use the term ‘movie’ possibly implying a feature length film.

First Look: Sofia Coppola’s ‘Somewhere’ & Noah Baumbach’s ‘Greenberg’

First look images from two of our most anticipated 2010 films have come online due to the American Film Market, Sofia Coppola’s “Somewhere” and Noah Baumbach’s Untitled new comedy formerly known as “Greenberg” (or possibly reverted back to that title for now.

Either the films played in full or snippets and or trailers were presented to buyers both domestic and international (Focus has both of these in the U.S. from what we recall), but Collider has new images of both.

Michelle Monaghan Added To Sofia Coppola’s ‘Somewhere’; Film Elements Finished And Screening Soon

As for Sofia Coppola’s fourth feature-film, “Somewhere” — also apparently completed and screening at The American Film Market in Santa Monica — details have come in fits and starts, but we do know the film stars Stephen Dorff (no, you didn’t read that wrong) as a rough-and-tumble Hollywood star who is wasting away at the Chateau Marmont when his estranged, 11 year old daughter (Elle Fanning) drops in for a surprise visit.

The New Yorker article we just mentioned also reveals that Michelle Monaghan has a significant part in the film, which is something we didn’t realize.

Sofia Coppola’s Dior Directed Commercial

Old news to most, we know, but we’re behind (sometimes we can’t always post on the weekends, we need to watch films and relax, sorry). Anywhoo, Sofia Coppola directed this new Dior fragrance commercial that’s set to the Brigitte Bardot song “Moi, Je Joue” (interestingly enough one of the few great Bardot songs not written by Serge Gainsbourg).

We’ve heard some people hating on it claiming its the same thing Coppola always does, but then wouldn’t it be a lot more pensive, thoughtful and lyrically slow then it would be whimsical, care-free and playful?
