It’s been awhile since Matthew McConaughey last appeared onscreen: four years, in fact. The last time?  Guy Ritchie‘s London gangster caper-comedy “The Gentlemen.” Now Deadline reports McConaughey is ready for a live-action role again, and will star in “The Lost Bus.”  Paul Greengrass will direct the film, with Jamie Lee Curtis co-starring.

We’ve reached that time of year where strategically timed honorary awards and tributes are set to make an impact on the season.  This afternoon Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP) revealed that Willem Dafoe, star of the upcoming “At Eternity’s Gate,” and Paul Greengrass, the director of Netflix’s “22 July,” will receive the Actor and Directors tribute, respectively, at the 2018 IFP Gotham Awards.  Both gentlemen are vying for Oscar attention in what is turning out to be a very competitive season.

In practically no way does Paul Greengrass‘ forensic recreation of terrorist Anders Breivik‘s 2011 massacre on Utøya island and its aftermath, “22 July” resemble its Venice competition stablemate, “First Man.” But the space-storm-in-a-teacup debate that flared up briefly over the absence of a flag-planting scene in Damien Chazelle‘s film does have a strange, inverse parallel in one of the key choices that Greengrass makes: if the arguments over “First Man” prompt us to question the degree to which any nation “owns” the achievements of its past and the manner in which they are portrayed, the presentation of “22 July” in Norwegian-accented English forces us to ask how much a nation owns its tragedies.

First, he wants to throw a lot of money at those big Marvel-like blockbusters. Then, because of recent successes, Stuber wants to continue to develop mid-budget romantic comedies. And finally, Netflix really wants to become a major player in the prestige category, developing major awards contenders.
