After dipping his toes into the action-comedy genre with the recent Prime Video film, “Jackpot,” it appears Paul Feig is ready to switch genres again and test out a thriller in a film titled “The Housemaid.”

According to Deadline, Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are going to star in Paul Feig’s Lionsgate thriller, “The Housemaid.” The film is based on the novel by Freida McFadden and tells the story of a young woman (Sweeney) who begins work for a wealthy married couple but finds they are hiding some dark secrets. 

“I’m thrilled to have ‘The Housemaid’ join our upcoming slate,” said Adam Fogelson, chair Lionsgate Motion Picture Group.

Paul Feig is a gambling man. With “Bridesmaids,” he was willing to bet that an all-woman cast could do raunchy, R-rated comedy just as good as the guys. That paid off handsomely. Then, he was willing to bet big on Melissa McCarthy, with two films, “The Heat” and “Spy,” which were both successes. According to Blumhouse, Paul Feig has been brought on to direct a new film titled “Worst Roommate Ever.” The series is based on the same New York Magazine article by William Brennan that inspired the hit unscripted television series “Worst Roommate Ever.”

The film’s plot begins when “a newly single woman finds a seemingly perfect gentleman to sublet the spare room in her dream home, but she soon learns that his deceit goes beyond a phony name and application, and she has unwittingly invited a serial squatter into her home who won’t leave without a fight.”

“Jason and I have been trying to find the perfect project to collaborate on for years and this story is tailor-made to deliver the scares, thrills, emotion and comedy of dread that both he and I like to entertain audiences with,” said Feig.
